I've never had to pay more than $65 for comprehensive coverage.

Makes sense, comprehensive coverage is cheap as hell. It's liability and collision that really get you

I meant if someone is paying $500 a month, I believe the fee to not have insurance is less than that
The "fee" to not have insurance is they will suspend your license and/or arrest you

We pay $1200/six months for two drivers, two upper scale MY2019 vehicles, and the following coverage:
  • $1mil/$1mil
  • $1mil property
  • $100/$500 deductible for full coverage (was going to be like $60 cheaper over six months if we bumped this up to $1000/$1000, so made no sense to not get this low deductible)
  • Full tort
  • Rental car and roadside coverage
This could be reduced to about $900/six months if we just lower our coverage to a more reasonable $100k/$300k. Could even go down to like $700/six months if we go limited tort too.

I just hate how I am forced to pay these rates and I KNOW I won't ever see even 10% of what I pay come back to me. I don't drive dangerously and have never been an incident in the 15-16 years that I have been driving and I doubt that I ever will. And again if I do get into an accident the money paid out by insurance won't be close to what I have paid. What is the fucking point? How does everybody collectively buy into this?

I don't even know how much I pay -_- Had to look it up.

About $87 a month per each car (so ... double that). I pay more for extra coverage though just because it's Maryland and I'm paranoid af.

One of my first vehicles (at... 16?) was $450 per month full coverage (I needed a loan and the bank refused to supply the loan unless I had full coverage - I did eventually find another back to fund the loan and it dropped to $200/month for just liability/comprehensive).

At 32, with two vehicles, I am paying $150 with liability/comprehensive on both, collision on one, without windshield coverage on either. It costs more for the windshield coverage than getting a new windshield every year. Depending on where I go, I can have the windshields replaced twice per year without exceeding the windshield coverage 'quote.'

... $450 a month? That had to have been more than the monthly car payment (if you had one), right?

Did you know that if you do an online quote on Geico, as soon as you hit the submit button, the rate will increase? Apparently the quotes are only estimates, and the true quote will not happen until you press submit. You can still back out of it before you actually agree though.

Maybe I'm a dumbass for not already knowing this.

Also question to you guys. If you call rather than do online quotes, can sales representatives actually do anything to get your rates down? Do they actually have the power to give you discounts that the online site does not? Or am I wasting my time thinking that someone over the phone can do better than online?

I've rarely ever dealt with insurance people, but my experience with companies in general like ISPs and telephone companies is that they want your business and they have some leeway in how they get and then keep that business. So if you go in there with some BS like "Well I called All-State and they said they'd give me $70 for the same thing you're asking $90 for!" then they might be able to meet you half-way >_>. Just a guess though. Just know when I was calling to cancel my Comcast internet service they sent me ASAP to customer retention and immediately offered a monthly rate reduction no questions asked.

Yeah, car payments were about $200 I believe. I was essentially working to pay for insurance.

I pay around 400+ every six months, but this year I paid ahead of time of 900+ back in november for the discount.

Example -

On the other hand, if a policyholder has his premiums paid in full within the first month or two of the policy term, that gives the insurance company more money over the next several months to invest.
That reduces the risk of loss to the insurance company should the policyholder file a claim.

Lol good to know. I followed up with Farmers Insurance, they offered me a quote with just liability for $161/mo. What the hell? I told them Geico offered $85/mo for the same thing. Their response? "Yeah this is gonna be a bit higher". I told him I wasn't interested and he didn't even try to sell me after that. He just said have a good day.

I've been with USAA the entire time I've owned my car. <_<

I pay a little over $100/month for liability on a 2008 Chevy HHR. >__>

I have a forgiven accident with USAA because of a small fender bender in the parking lot so I'm afraid to trust any quotes.

Hey lol I'm not promising success with my approach but it's worth trying, worst case scenario you just end up with the same quote you were going to get anyway.

lol chevy HHR, disgusting. Our command had one as the duty vehicle, I had to drive it once, was the worst thing I've ever driven in my life, after that I just used my POV.

Maybe it's Stockholm syndrome but I like my car. It does what I need. Point A to Point B and sits in the barracks parking lot.

My favorite fun fact is that as a kid I said I'd never own a PT Cruiser because they're ugly.

First car I bought was the closest goddamned thing you can get

I pay about $66 a month but when I looked realized I still had my car listed as still being financed when it's been paid off for a year and a $500 deductible. I bumped the deductible to $1000 so it's in the $50 something range now.
