It is not rational or wise and actually very irrational and unwise. That type of thinking actually distracts you from more important things like not crashing into others.

I barely even look at my speedometer when driving. The gas gauge gets a single glance when I start the vehicle.

Maybe if you're on a highway in the middle of nowhere and running low i can see looking at it more, but in normal situations it is not a good thing

I will add that when driving long stretches, on Tuesday I drove for 4 hours, monitoring your fuel is important, since a sharp decline is a symptom of a problem.
