I think every time i attempt to 100% banjo tooie outside of the first time i did it, my runs end there because of how god awful that stage is...

Banjo Tooie had many problems, including that world. A lot of the worlds weren't much fun, and tried too hard to be clever. The framerate was also somewhat bad. Having Banjo and Kazooie split up seems interesting at first, but turns out to be a stupid gimmick.

It's still a very good game, but not superb like the original.

Don't even mention Nuts and Bolts.

The main issue i have with tooie, i dig the worlds being big, what i don't like is the constant forced backtracking that just gets worse as you get deeper into the game, this is extremely apparent when you get to terrydactiland and the styracosaurus shit...

You needed to rescue the tyke from witchyworld and get her back there with the train, then you need to get banjo's carry ability and take the sick tyke back to the train, then go to the cliffside station and get mumbo from the cliffside to heal it, then back to terrydactiland, and then the last one you need mumbo on terrydactiland to the nest and use the pad there, all of this for 1 jiggy...

Then there's the oogle boggle's that need you to light up the fire in their caves, then they demand food, only junk food, thankfully there's an exit to witchyworld in the same cave, but you need the suction cup boot upgrade you get from grunty's industries...

The whole game is "go to the next stage to complete the prior stage" or worse, there's at least 3 jiggies in jolly roger lagoon that requires multiple visits, tiptup's egg, one in the smuggler's cave and the one from the pigs in the pool...

i'm kind of surprised that somebody that would go back and play tooie would mind grunty industries. it might take the tedium farther than the other levels but they all still suck and have the same issues on a smaller scale. personally i'm never gonna play that fucking game again.

I can't think of a single metroidvania that has this degree of backtracking for progression sake and not for random upgrade hunting like in metroid and such.

Honestly, its sheer nostalgia and the music, i enjoy the game, but sometimes i just have to save and quit and take a long break before going back into a stage...

i did banjo kazooie 100% before this, and for comparison mumbo's mountain took me like 30 mins, in banjo tooie mayahem temple took me an hour, the game is way larger and longer in scale than kazooie by a lot.

also FPS controls on a joystick is fucking awful.

Honestly, not even the worst level in it's own game.

I'm looking at you Terrydactyland,

At least now that i did it again, terrydactyland has a semblance of coherent progression, and not much backtracking through mumbo and wumba's shit.

Grunty's industries? you can't even fucking ENTER the stage normally... you need to activate the train station and enter through there lol

Speaking of mumbo and wumba, i can't wait to have to deal with the bullshit that is turning into a washing machine and cleaning the rabbit's overalls all over the place...

Um all of them? Backtracking after acquiring a new thing is kind of the MO of Metroidvania.

Not nearly on the same repetitive degree and banjo tooie, this is a really bad example my dude.

He's saying that the payoff in BT is literally just a jiggie which has no functional impact on gameplay. You backtrack in something like Metroid to get upgrades or unlock new areas.

Grunty industries, while terrible, gets some points from me for not resembling any other level in the franchise(Maybe rusty bucket bay?).

All I can think while navigating the mountain in the center of Terrydactyland is, "Click-clock wood, but terrible."

Don't get me wrong, they're both awful and easily the two worst stages in the game.

Everything is for a Jiggy... That's kind of the point of the game. Perform task, collect jiggy, open new world and perform more tasks to collect more jiggies. This is what a collectathon is. I get if you're not a fan of the genre, but it's not really much more in depth than that.

I always thought this was extremely cool, you're like, sneaking into this fortified building

I like grunty industries a lot mostly because it's not really like any other level in the series. the way parts of it are connected, the swaps between inside/outside, the elevators, things like that. it's way more interesting than the levels that are just big with a bunch of things spread in them (the mine, the circus, dinosaur land, cloud land... wait this is basically just every other stage)

it totally is but at that point there's so much shit compounded to how frustrating the levels are it kinda loses its shine a bit.

I agree on that, at least the level is something completely different, and agree on the terrydactyland thing, its legit the same layout and all, even the swamp shit by mumbo and stuff...

The only thing going for terrydactyland is that its straightforward if you know what you're doing, i can't say the same for grunty industries, i don't even know where to start, 5 minutes in and i already made it ot the 4th floor and have no idea where to go.
