One of my all time favorite books.

LotR is a foundation of high fantasy, so it has more higher regard within literary and artistic communities.

it was my main reading all through middle and high school. at one point, i think i owned every book, though some of the last ones were pretty bad (or i got old enough to realize that they were bad.) The Deathgate Cycle from the main authors was my favorite, though, until I discovered The Wheel of Time.
