That's between new consoles yes but generally there's a couple of more years of crossgen games on top of that.

Also maxing out games for 10 years on a 2k PC seems pretty unlikely to me. If you spent that much in 2017 for a new PC you won't be using ray tracing in games today which is the top of the line setting. You really need to have the right sort of timing on top of the right hardware.

But yeah I don't really get this argument or confusion from either side. It's generally pretty obvious why people prefer consoles or PC.

There are very few games even 10 yr old high end computers can't run at absolute max settings. Obviously you won't be running most things ray-tracing but not even the highest end computer you can build performs well with most tiers of 4k ray-tracing so clearly that's not what maxing means atm

I dunno. Cyberpunk 2077's max setting is ray tracing. That's what makes that game look so phenomenal on PC. It's just getting more and more common.

I'm not even talking about 4k either. Ray tracing is the killer setting right now. It's what NVIDIA bases their new GPU's around. They're developing AI upscaling so you can set it at higher resolutions. It's even a thing for the new consoles. If you have a GPU that's over 2 years old you miss out on that completely and if you spent 2k for that to last 10 years you're probably gonna be pretty disappointed.

No idea how many people are still rocking a GTX 590 in 2020 lol. Even that's missing AA techniques that have been common for the last few years. Aiming for 5 years is better than 10 I think if you truly care about maxing games out. If you don't then yeah 10 years is fine. If turning on ray tracing doesn't mean maxing out I don't really know what maxing out means then lol. Maxing out means turning on all of the graphics settings to me.

While PS5 and XBOX are impressive, you can make a $2000 PC that's better than the next 2 generations probably. But the thing to consider here is that I bet you the console generation will last like 7-10 years this time around, tho PS and Xbox consoles tend to just be a flat power upgrade so maybe not. You might think it's expensive but at the same time, you either spend the next 10 years enjoying games at max power or... you wait 7-10 years so that maybe a console will be at a competitive power to a PC.

I didn't really get it at first but when I finally built one and saw it effortlessly just crank up the quality to a level PS5/XBOX can't even remotely reach, I finally understood. Also it's very easy to have 2 screens to watch Youtube or Netflix on one and play games on the other, and you can't really do that on a console that easily, unless you watch through a small phone screen or you have a laptop then the costs rack up.

The Series X GPU has about the same compute power as the RTX 2080 Ti and RTX 3070.

I wouldn't say the 3080 and 3090 are "two generations ahead"

I like that you ignored my post about Total War btw and just continued to act like no game on PC takes advantage of ridiculous hardware even though there's an entire series of very notable games that do in fact

Not to mention just about every open-world AAA game that is clearly built with high-end PCs in mind, basically all of them scale with ridiculous hardware and generally run like ass on console. (note that this is not the same thing as being unsatisfactory to console gamers, as we all know the standards are much higher on PC and 30FPS is generally not tolerated there)
