I'm tired of this idea that people are criticizing him for a mere "difference of opinion" like it's the difference between preferring Pepsi or Coke. Political views and policy stances matter. They matter a whole hell of a lot. They are the difference between life and death, prosperity and poverty for a lot of people.

This guy wasn't a rando on Reddit saying he liked guns. He was an elected official for the party that is blocking Covid relief, blocked Covid response, and turned all anti-pandemic measures into a culture war issue. This lead to the unnecessary deaths of hundreds of thousands and poverty for millions of others. Because of that difference of opinion.

If we don't judge people on what they want to happen in society and what they publicly advocate for, what should we be judging them on?

This person didn't deserve to die, his young children and his wife shouldn't have to bear losing him, but his political stances and his political party have subjected countless Americans to that very fate and no one should apologize for recognizing that when it happens to him.

The Republican party is literally responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of citizens and is currently blocking a relief bill while millions of citizens are homeless in the middle of a pandemic

This.

Also, we aren't talking about some extremely nuanced tax policy here. We are talking about a party whose leader asked if we could look into bleaching our fucking lungs and who got caught red handed LYING about the pandemic.

You do realize that if people can't work, they don't get paid and if they don't have money they can't buy food that is necessary to live, right?

Stop acting like its a binary situation where its all for or all against. No, there is a middle ground here that needs to be explored. And you need to understand that people that think different than you aren't evil and they don't deserve to die. That is a dangerous thought process.

Oh wow. That's a cringeworthy response...

You're not effectively shutting down if grocery stores and factories that distribute food are still open. Youre actually creating these centers where everybody is packing into a single store because they're not able to spread out. And you're actually destroying smaller family owned stores and farmers markets and empowering big box super corporations and other companies like Amazon that are getting super wealthy while their employees have to survive on food stamps and medicaid.

If grocery stores are closed, and the production centers are closed, all the money in the world won't guarantee you food. You have to understand that the economy isn't just all money, it necessary to our survival in a world where everyone isn't a farmer.

I'm not saying we should do that but im explains why a half assed shut down hasn't worked despite being in effect for months now.

If you support or are part of a group that politicizes a pandemic causes many people to get hurt or killed and supports things like corporations having a ton of power, corruption and cronyism in government, police abusing/murdering citizens, war for profit and the military industrial complex, private prisons for profit, putting people in concentration camps, mistreating minorities, etc., then what are you? It also goes beyond difference of opinion. Sadly not even the mods here know that and you can be suspended for pointing these things out.

If all conservatives were like Trump, I would be in favor of going to war with them and refusing to take prisoners. He's a dumb ass who enjoys power at all cost to others. He knew people would commit suicide when he said to inject bleach and he said it anyway. As far as talking about the economic responsibilities of who could've saved who, I'd say there's plenty of bloods on the hands of both parties. That argument doesn't fly with me. Anyone could've done more to save more lives. Democrats could've compromised to save lives. There's been a lot of bickering and self-serving on both sides.

So, no. Alignment alone isn't enough of an argument for me.
