Should the next stimulus check be $2000 or more?

I voted "no" because I don't think random stimulus checks are going to make a big overall difference. I think more focused and more consistent government support across the board would be much more beneficial.

For instance, I think some kind of rent forgiveness or rent relief would be way more helpful than a stimulus check.
More consistent funding of impacted businesses would go a long way (a $2,000+ stimulus doesn't last long if your job is gone forever).
Student loan forgiveness would be huge, or something like the government paying off $10,000 of your loans, etc.

I think the stimulus checks are a nice gesture...but a band-aid that will let the government ignore providing more proper and effective aid.

Ehh im torn

I feel like its premature to go all in on stimulus. No amount of stimmie will get me into a restaurant or movie theatre

What we need is to start calling it "relief" and do a lot more of it
I'd like to see significantly more unemployment money, rent assistance, and PPE
And definitely keep extending eviction moratoriums

But idk about stimmie rn

We need Green New Deal or some version of The New Deal like how they restarted economies in the past. Create infrastructure, jobs, clean resources, people forget that when people merge they find love too and all of sudden babies start coming out. Thats a good idea no one listens too

No what he's saying is we should be trying to figure out a constructive way to restore productivity so both people can be employed and companies can survive. Stimulus/relief was handled like garbage, but big picture never the solution.

Of course, a bunch of dumbasses who couldn't comply with the lighter guidelines ruined it for the rest of us, but realistically there's a stagnation that's unsustainable for everyone to live with. Only reason for it to drag on is if there's some master plan to drive society to shit.

Uhh, no. Grandpa and Grandma were already retired on a fixed income, people in that situation aren't financially affected by COVID. We need to end the shutdowns and let people go back to their jobs, and provide financial incentives to restart businesses that have closed down.

This is the difference between left and right. A lefty sees a person with no money and thinks "That person needs a government handout!" A righty sees a person with no money and thinks "That person needs a job!"

Re-opening(and many places never really "shutdown" in any meaningful capacity and nowhere is "shutdown" now) leads to mass death and depressed economic activity(tons of people are sick or dying, tons of people have lost their jobs, those who haven't are spending a lot less, etc.). Shutting down leads to less death(how much depends on how complete and sustained a shutdown is, and how feasible it is) but further depresses economic activity. The way other countries responded to this problem was some combination of subsidizing payrolls, generous, continuous cash payments to citizens, and/or generous unemployment benefit expansions. It should also be noted that health care and unemployment benefits are generally much more accessible in other developed countries(compared to here, where many states intentionally design their aid systems to be as unavailable, dysfunctional and humiliating as possible).
The way we responded to the pandemic was to mismanage it badly while pumping Wall Street full of cash. We briefly had fairly generous unemployment benefits*, but state governments and small businesses are hurting bad and Congress has yet to do much to aid them, and the overall level of aid given to individuals in this country was always and has continued to be monstrously inadequate.
*Assuming, of course, you were able to access them.

Basically, American society is unusually full of pain and suffering and remarkably unbothered by/ignorant of/accepting of it.

theres gonna be another stimulus for sure regardless of the outcome of the vaccine. at least one more stimulus and definitely a recovery one after covid19 gets under control.

getting industries back up and running severely impacted from the pandemic is gonna be priority. im sure another stimulus is going to happen for that too for helping small businesses and congressmen giving themselves another raise for their prompt responses during the pandemic
