The worst playable character is without a doubt, Hope via Final Fantasy 13.

I'm extremely hungover at the moment.

I'm leaving an Other category for various other titles (eg FF13 or FF15) or for whoever you would rather consider to be the villain of whichever the above games.

Kefka will probably win, but I would have voted for Cid Aulstyne from FF Type-0.

Out of the ones on that list, Vayne Carudas Solidor is my pick, FF12 had a bunch of truly awful characters, but Vayne was top notch as a main villain in the little time he had in the spotlight.

Kuja was the better villain. I loved the themes of fate and existentialism.

I cant stand Kefka but hell obviously always win these, which is fine. Itd be WAY more of a travesty if Sephiroth ever won one considering how actually lame he is though.

Sephiroth trolls the fanbase by killing a waifu and returns from death just to troll Cloud, even going as to follow him to Kingdom Hearts and Smash Bros.

Kefka was so ahead of his time. If FF6 was released today he might actually be seen as cliche since nihilism and cynicism is much more common in culture.

This is about right. Kefka is really fun and hateable and unique in that they didn't try to give him a sad backstory to make him sympathetic. Kuja in concept meanwhile was a lot more interesting than most other FF villains and also a lot more actively vital to the story than the majority of them also.

The two worst villains on that list are probably Sephiroth and Ultimecia. Sephiroth's motivations were made confusing and basically lost in translation in the english version of the game but once you actually look into it a bit and figure out what's happening, he becomes infinitely less mysterious and cool. Ultimecia meanwhile is in a completely incoherent story even in the japanese version of the game and almost nothing about her is explained or even made clear beyond her basic goals. She's not much better than Necron

I used to think Sephiroth was overrated, and loved Kefka after playing VI, but I've flipped in recent years. Sephiroth - despite being the foundation of brooding edgelord villains - has so much more depth as a character than Kefka. Kefka is still unique in his weirdness and how successful his plan was, but at least Sephiroth has a tragic motive besides "crazy guy wants to conquer world".

Sephiroth is not only really bad, but he's also part of the reason jrpg villain writing has been so stagnant since the 90s. Attempting to make you feel sorry for a villain is the laziest way to attempt to give depth to your antagonist and the pathos they attempt to pull with Sephy is both boring and not at all proportionate to where the story goes with him. And thus now we have people mimicing that in every other jrpg now where the bad guy wants to blow up the solar system or enslave the entire world because their ancestors were treated bad or because they had a rough childhood or whatever else.

Kefka isn't written by a genius. I wouldn't even say he's written super well. But he's a lot more memorable and interesting than Kefka in the long run because the majority of FF6 has the party facing off not against Kefka but against general human greed and cruelty, and Kefka just represents the extent of it. It's got themes that work from beginning to end and he fits into them perfectly. This is compared to FF7 which starts out really strong with a message about the environment and unsustainable human behavior and then gets progressively diluted by Sephiroth being vague and menacing because he's upset about his mom

Because it reminds them of Joker and the fact that he destroyed the world but the context on how he got there is very important but it's something people quickly forget or simply don't remember.

Emperor from FF II. He got killed partway through and then said fuck that, you can't get rid of me, and came back to drag the final dungeon out of hell and ended up being the final boss. Later on, when they made Soul of Rebirth, we find out that his soul split in two he and didn't just take over hell, but heaven as well.

Ironically, Seph has the final missing piece that would make Kefka Joker: someone to obsess over. The best Jokers still love chaos, but essentially say "screw the money and power. Let's go fuck with Batman!" and would happily die if it meant Bats dropping his precious ideals and becoming a murderer. Seph failed at destroying the planet, but found something roughly as good along the way: trying to break Cloud. Kefka would like to shatter hope in general, but it's all the same to him. No one really stands out or interests him.

For the record, I love Kef as a character. His actions are despicable and his antics are amusing. I just kan't help but roll my eyes every time I see "He actually destroyed the world. Best FF villain."
