After witnessing a brutal murder instigated by California-based gang boss Eddie Kim on U.S. Prosecutor Daniel Hayes in Hawaii, Sean Jones is escorted by FBI agents Neville Flynn and John Sanders on a Boeing 747-400 to testify in a trial against Kim in Los Angeles. this wasn't for comedic or campy effect but as a "serious setup" for the ridiculous premise. shadow in the cloud has the same type of serious setup before spiraling. --- ... Just because the movie has got a heavy scene in it doesn't really mean the movie was ever intended to be serious. not saying either of them are "serious movies" but they're "taking themselves seriously".
