Question

Let's say you created a business/company that got large overnight. You come up with new and amazing ways to change people's lives. You become a billionaire in return. You'll never have to work a day in your life again even with 1% of it. Eventually there are forces out there that want you to donate. And this tugs on your morality meter. How much do you donate?

I wouldn't. Id start my own organization, so I wouldn't have to trust others to put it where I want it. I could make sure it actually goes to the right places. Id also want to hang onto a lot soI could make it multiply and have more money to help others in the long run.

Probably like 20-30 million a year. Donating a large chunk of it right away would be pretty dumb.

And I'd grow that amount as my wealth grew

I wouldn't donate to just anyone. Only people and companys I believe are going to progress the net sum of humanity. And if the 99% has a issue with that then they can pay more in taxs to help further fund our social programs.

As little as possible, yet maximizing the returns from tax deductible donations.

I'm not a charity group. I am running a business here...

That tone will change if a natural disaster struck near my properties and state. A million here, and million there. 10% is already ridiculously high.

Rather than donate, I'd definitely be more into directly funding shit so I know where my money is going. What percentage would depend on overall cost, but I'd definitely put down a solid chunk.

How many billions? If its only like 3 billion Id probably keep the donations under like 100mil. If I had 150 billion or whatever Id probably invest a lot of it into research for solving future societal issues like lack of water/housing/energy etc

or solve global warming lolz

Tithing is 10%. However, as a Christian, I would feel extra blessed if I became a billionaire over night. Ergo, I'd donate 20% to Christian churches.

The thing about being a billionaire is that people are going to come after you, HARD. You can't be a billionaire and live in some million dollar house in an ungated community. Even if you tell people you gave it away, they won't believe you. So you've got to have enough money to buy an actual estate with security, and keep enough money to pay the taxes and upkeep for the rest of your life. I was looking at a 10 million dollar estate yesterday and it was estimated to need $43,000 a month just to keep it running.

What does that even mean, people are going to come after you hard? There are billionaires living understated lives outside palatial estates.

I don't think some of you understand how much just one billion dollars is. You could give away literally 99% of a billion bucks and still be absolutely set for life with your remaining 10 million.

Greater than 50% to be sure. Heck, if I made just $10 million in income a year, I'd easily give away 90% of it.

Depending on the kause/organization, yes. Ignoring the scummy ones that do the bare minimum (or less) with money they receive, there's still things like Make-A-Wish that I'd personally konsider a waste of money.
