I remember hearing something about her re-recording her songs due to record label disputes with ownership to her music.

Then in that Match.com commercial which featured her song "Love story", I could tell it wasn't the original recording, must have been a new recording.

So what happens with these? The new recordings exist on steaming services alongside the old versions or something? Does the old version become extinct? What does the radio do? Has she re-recorded all of her major hits?

Ultimately it means there are two different versions of each song with different ownership and licensing agreements. Though with one hang up, as the writer of the songs, Taylor holds publishing rights for both versions.

People/companies can still license the original versions of songs, but they would need to get the licensing rights from one company and the publishing from Taylor. I imagine old Taylor songs you hear on the radio are the originals from legacy deals.

The big advantage to her re-recording her masters is that she can use them for her own projects and she can use them in advertisements she is directly involved in. Before being re-recorded, Match could have licensed Love Song, but odds are Taylor would not agree to the publishing or be in the ad. Or they could have had Taylor, but no Love Song. Now they don't have to choose.

The same thing happened to Neil Diamond when he signed with Columbia. It actually seems fairly common with groups from the 50's and 60's when they re-record songs for compilations. (Jan and Dean is a bit of a crapshoot as to what version you'll get for example. )
