Yeah but like that? Plus the TC would be more sympathetic if he just didnt share it like that. Acting smug about it is whats rubbing people the wrong way.

yeah its like its one thing to do it if it had to be done, but there is literally zero reason to share this at all

This is nothing. I've seen employees get fired via a text.

A group text.

If it was you, dude I'd have a case that you were harassing me with HR in that case and good look trying to fire me for performance related tasks when you're messaging me out of hours, on the fucking weekend to come to meetings.

Some states, such as CA, can have laws where full time non- salary employees who work during their time off, such as scheduling a meeting, must be paid. These minutes count towards overtime. Failure to log and pay for these minutes can get the company into trouble.

https://calchamberalert.com/2019/01/18/in-california-all-time-worked-must-be-paid-even-if-its-only-minutes/

Note: not sure if this has changed at all due to WFH.

He mentioned that he spoke to the dude multiple times and that the dude kept fucking up over and over and that the job wasn't difficult.

I don't recall hearing if any re-training was offered or anything like that.

if the OP is actually real and its not some sort of meme or pic gone viral it offers us some interesting insights about human nature:

/being a manager forces you to despise your direct reports and dehumanize them. TC was following the course of action mandated by his higher ups.

/that doesnt let TC off the hook though. He clearly enjoys this sort of stuff, to the point he was fairly upset, or at least annoyed by the fact he didnt get to see Peter cry and beg for his job, so he made this topic.

All these posts about how you should fire on Friday are dead wrong. Friday is the *worst* time to fire someone since it leaves them in an extremely upset emotional spot with no mental resource options available or resources for looking for a new job to recover stability with available until Monday. Statistically, this means more people will commit suicide for being fired on Friday than if it typically happens on Monday, with the whole week to figure things out.

Obviously Peter wouldn't kill himself though - getting away from OP will probably be the best thing that ever happened to him. What a terrible boss.

wouldnt the best time be Wednesday? They get pay for Mon and Tue and still got Thu and Fri to try to figure things out.

I agree on why Friday is a bad day

Okay, I'm going to provide a bit more detail to his.

First, I don't mind that people are giving me shit for this. It is in no way how I wanted to go down. I am 100% of the opinion that people should be fired as face-to-face as possible (which in this case is Teams as we both work remotely). My original plan was to terminate the individual this Friday. On Sunday I received a call from the CEO telling me that he wanted him terminated on Monday before the company huddle, which is 9:00 am. I don't make my team work during the weekends and I don't expect them to check their e-mail during the weekends. He also normally starts his day at 9:00 am so my text was simply to give him a heads up to have an earlier meeting. Which is how the text conversation came about.

I did not post it here to mock him, so much as I was surprised that how this came about. Though I can see how it reads as mocking.

The employee in question was a very nice individual. Always polite and always respectful but he just did not "get it". His work lacked any sort of self-review and he frequently ignored directions. Which resulted in the people reviewing his work to spend as much time reviewing and correcting it as it would have taken to do it themselves, which just wasn't working. The CEO wanted to fire him earlier in December, but I said no because I didn't feel right firing someone before giving them notice that they were under-performing. I had conversations with him essentially saying that he was performing below expectations and here were the areas he needed to improve. We then spent the next week going through his weekly activities together to point out areas to improve or processes he was skipping/ignoring. Following that he proceeded to turn in the exact same quality of work as he did before double paid a vendor to the tune of $28k, despite me explicitly providing him instructions that the vendor was not to be paid at all that week.

Please, ream the hell out of me for how this went down as well as the perceived mocking. It isn't how I wanted it and I do feel bad about it. My company does have some severe cultural issues, particularly regarding weekend work (hence my CEO calling me on a Sunday and telling me to do all this). I genuinely do what I can to shield my team from the brunt of it, but sometimes I get forced into no-win situations like this. I hope he is able to find a new opportunity where he can better succeed than us. He needs to work for a bigger company with a more refined processes and control environment than our company currently provides.

I won't lock this topic.

No way would I work for a company where I have to refer to anyone as sir nor would I stay at a place where I was already so disconnected from the quality of work expected as to be knowing I would be fired. It sounds like your company was just a bad fit for this employee.

As a manager of one company and an owner of another smaller one, I do occasionally have to contact my people in off hour situations. Many of them are salary, so the same rules don't apply in my state. For the hourly folks, if I am contacting them outside business hours, it is to offer them more work. They tend to like those calls.

Radio-fucking-active. I am genuinely miserable most days but I won't quit yet because I don't want a short stay on my resume.

What is your business space if you don't mind my asking? Many industries are cognizant of toxic workspaces and would likely not hold it against you unless you are new in your chosen field of work. For instance, if you are a new manager, something which could eventually lead to a better resume, I might try to knuckle under for a year or two. Otherwise, deuces.

It's online retail for the most part, which I will never work in ever again, because the always on mindset of retail, particularly online retail, bleeds into all aspects of the business and rots out concepts of work-life-balance. Right now I do everything I can to keep my team from working weekends even if it means I have to. Unfortunately this is my first controller roll since leaving public accounting so I can't bow out early and blame a toxic workplace.
