I think custodial staff is contracted out so they aren't airline employees.

As a aircraft mechanic from I what I know, it's not all that. Of course they get flight benefits and technically fly to different places a lot, but their pay schedule is kinda bad imo. The company I work for they only get paid when the door is closed on their flight. Otherwise if they're waiting for their flight in a break room then no money for that. Pilots are similar but they get paid a lot more obviously.

Ok can someone explain to me why flight attendants on American-based airlines tend to be older grumpier entitled assholes that act like they're only there for free travel and serving you is an inconvenience?

I dread flying on United and Delta and shit.

The receptionist probably does. The janitor likely works for the city. I know the guys on the ramp and ticket counter folks get travel privileges. They just pay the sales tax on the ticket. Space available though and they get bumped first.

Plus EEO laws. I dated a woman who worked for an Asian airline and the height, weight and hairstyle requirements the airline had for them would not fly under U.S. law. Pun intended.

Varies tremendously.

You can make $20k a year starting out at a small regional airline.

Then retire as a senior captain at a legacy airline making $300k.

That's if you get there. Most pilots don't.

And they pay $200k for flight training costs.

They're basically on a one year contract from what I hear. They have to re-certify for everything each year. You fail and there's hundreds in line to take your place.

the ones who have been doing the job are more likely to pass a recert than someone off the street doing their first.

the two FAs i know are both 10+ years tenure. One male one female. The male works first class, which is where the better performers go.

contracts are company specific btw. not industry.

Nah, the airlines don't care if you're a better performer or not. Just don't do anything illegal to not get fired.

You try to work first class or economy. And you may or may not get it. It depends on your seniority.

I think the highest paid one gets about $100k, if not a little more.

Of course it takes decades of service to reach that payscale.

It depends on your seniority

Seniority means literally nothing in non-union environments. And many airline workers are not unionized. I think some in my country just did organize, much to the chagrin of the airline companies lol.

About 1% make it in my field too, but here's the thing I've learned from hiring people:

Most people half ass the shit out of everything they do. You're already ahead of 9/10 people if youre a mature, well adapted adult
