The Popo 01/05/21 11:46:04 PM #28:	It doesnt hurt to have seen movies 1-3, but that said, the overwhelming majority of the Karate Kid lore in Cobra Kai is derived from the original movie (and the first few minutes of Part 2). It helps to know a bit about Part 2 in later seasons, and Part 3 might be important going forward, but at the very least, the show is full of flashbacks to show you just what theyre referencing. Id imagine it makes it easier for someone unfamiliar with the movies to follow along. Overall, this is all you really need to know from movies 2 & 3: In KK2, Daniel & Miyagi go to Okinawa so Miyagi can see his dying father. While there, Miyagis old rival (Sato) surfaces, who was once like a brother to Miyagi. Daniel forms a rivalry of his own with Satos student (Chozen). Daniel develops a love interest in a girl (Kumiko) during their stay. In KK3, John Kreese visits his old war buddy and current multimillionaire, Terry Silver, to get revenge on Daniel & Miyagi for ruining Cobra Kai. They bring in a hired gun to compete in the All Valley Tournament and go on a mission to bully Daniel into defending his championship so they can embarrass him in front of every and also kick the crap out of him. As Id mentioned, the first few minutes of KK2 are important, as it shows when Kreese basically loses everyone from Cobra Kai (it was actually a scene originally filmed for the end of KK1, but was eventually cut out, and added to the start of the sequel).
