This means Schumer(not McConnell) will run the Senate. It's an extremely precarious arrangement, but it means that the Dems can actually bring bills to the floor. Note that a 50-50 tie means the Vice President vote decides. Which means Democrats decide. 2) Mitch McConnell will lose many of his Majority Speaker of the Senate powers, which has allowed him to do everything from push through rightist judges, to shielding Republicans from having to vote for shit that would make them look bad, to generally being a piece of shit not concerned with passing any legislation except that which benefits himself and the rich. 3) The Senate is in charge of confirming cabinet members and judicial appointments. If Republicans had maintained their control, they could have easily been a thorn in the side of incoming Biden administration.
