Why are the $2,000 checks a guarantee at that point?

Vice President likely actually gets to use their senate related powers.

Because both Georgia candidates and national Democrats have said that's what they'll do with control of the Senate. Not even Democrats are stupid enough to blow that.

If the Democrats act in unison, they can pass any legislation they want, since they will have the votes in both houses of Congress and a president who wont veto it when it gets to his desk.

Well that'll be nice. I haven't even gotten my $600 stimulus yet. If it gets bumped to $2,000? Hell yeah.

Could you imagine them starting to waffle on payments as soon as Biden is sworn in? Oof

It's time we just make recreational marijuana legal federally and prohibit state laws against it as well. We should also find people convicted of just marijuana and expunge their records.

It means that Mitch McConnell doesn't have a vice-grip on the Senate's balls any more, and he no longer has the power to act against the interest of the people in favour of corrupt Republican fuckfaces.

The Senate is 50D and 50R, and VP Kamala Harris breaks the tie, leading to Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. This means Schumer(not McConnell) will run the Senate.
It's an extremely precarious arrangement, but it means that the Dems can actually bring bills to the floor. And they had best be snappy about it: voters don't care for excuses.

Doesn't D.C. violate the "no taxation without representation" rule or am I missing something?

There's almost no chance that this'll happen. But what will is federal decriminalization and expunging.

It is actually a pretty big deal for several reasons:

1) Democrats will be in charge of all elected leadership, the House, the Senate, and the Presidency going forward, allowing them a lot of freedom to enact their agenda. Note that a 50-50 tie means the Vice President vote decides. Which means Democrats decide.

2) Mitch McConnell will lose many of his Majority Speaker of the Senate powers, which has allowed him to do everything from push through rightist judges, to shielding Republicans from having to vote for shit that would make them look bad, to generally being a piece of shit not concerned with passing any legislation except that which benefits himself and the rich.

3) The Senate is in charge of confirming cabinet members and judicial appointments. If Republicans had maintained their control, they could have easily been a thorn in the side of incoming Biden administration. They are massively deflated in their power having lost it.
