Well of course he is. Im not a subscriber so I can only quote a little bit of it. Maybe someone on here can quote the rest.

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/07/us/politics/trump-self-pardon.html

President Trump has suggested to aides he wants to pardon himself in the final days of his presidency, according to two people with knowledge of the discussions, a move that would mark one of the most extraordinary and untested uses of presidential power in American history.
In several conversations since Election Day, Mr. Trump has told advisers that he is considering giving himself a pardon and, in other instances, asked whether he should and what the effect would be on him legally and politically, according to the two people. It was not clear whether he had broached the topic since he incited his supporters on Wednesday to march on the Capitol, where some stormed the building in a mob attack.
Mr. Trump has shown signs that his level of interest in pardoning himself goes beyond idle musings.

It would be an interesting precedent that's for sure, and I'd wager the new admin would find a way to reverse it

Don't you need to be convicted of something first to be pardoned?

no, see Ford's pardon of Nixon.

a pardon can only save him from federal crimes, but he's looking at felony election fraud in GA and a plethora of financial / tax crimes in NY

But Fords pardon of Nixon was only for thr crimes he committed for a certain period of time (while president i believe)

What if Trump pardons himself for any crimes he may commit in the future? Whoa

People who actually pretend the US Constitution is a good basis for government are idiots for precisely this reason. The Founding Fathers could not conceive of immorality this brazen being tolerated and encouraged by a large chunk of the country. The Constitution fails as soon as the people in charge of upholding completely disregard the Enlightenment principles that formed it.

If this doesn't result in a new amendment establishing that the President can definitely not do this, the government is a joke.

The Justice Department during Nixon said he couldn't pardon himself while his own lawyer said he could. Whether he can or not is debatable and in the end probably up to the SCOTUS. Granted he still has multiple state charges, possible warcrimes, and the international law he broke with his last pardons.

He's definitely exposed that a lot of our "unwritten rules" about the presidency should probably be written down.

Since no one has tried it before, it absolutely would come down to SCOTUS *if challenged. That's an important distinction. Ford's pardon of Nixon was not challenged, so the legality of it was not scrutinized

I would support a law that a president, once impeached, can never issue a pardon.

I would support a law that removed the presidential power to pardon at all.

Also no. All Vietnam draft dodgers were pardoned without admitting guilt.

I mean... of course he wont admit guilt but it is more like waving a giant flag saying you are guilty while the words coming out of your mouth are that you are innocent. Thats how I see it anyway

The sad part is the he will try to pardon himself and his family for a whole bunch of crimes and his supporters will still try to make an excuse / deny he did anything wrong...

Well the spin is easy. "Trump is pardoning himself for the FAKE crimes he knows the DEEP STATE will try to pin on him when he leaves office. He's DEFENDING HIS FREEDOM AND OUR FREEDOM! Being a REAL patriot is NOT A CRIME!"

It's never been tested in court. If he pardoned himself that would be basically an automatic supreme court challenge. It's extremely unlikely Roberts will agree with it. Gorsuch probably won't either.

This. "Unwritten rules" mean nothing anymore, we need several amendments to prevent the shit Trump has pulled from ever happening again.
