For one the Soviets had a non-aggression pact with them until they invaded Manchuria and the northern islands at the very end of the war. Secondly they never even managed to control the majority of China. The war there stagnated for them very quickly. They did conquer much of Southeast Asia, but the exception you made for Thailand is dubious. Thailand allied with Japan, but they did it under threat of invasion, so it wasn't much of a real choice.
