Is Britain still a kingdom?

Japan has an emperor still but the emperor has no power. Just like the British Queen. Its all tradition and show. The real leader of Japan is the Prime Minister

1) japan wasn't always unified.
2) they did take over other countries. Korea was a big one. okinawa another. and then during ww2, they annexed literally all of asia (except for thailand)

They were unable to control the vast majority of Asia during WWII. For one the Soviets had a non-aggression pact with them until they invaded Manchuria and the northern islands at the very end of the war. Secondly they never even managed to control the majority of China. The war there stagnated for them very quickly. They did conquer much of Southeast Asia, but the exception you made for Thailand is dubious. Thailand allied with Japan, but they did it under threat of invasion, so it wasn't much of a real choice. Japan also tried to get Indian independence activists on their side but the was a total failure as they saw showing loyalty to the British as a more viable long term strategy for independence.
