I know Im super late on this critique train but.... lol at those character arc 180s

Especially Jaime and Daenarys, like wtf... felt kind of jarring and rushed

IMO Jaime should have left to meet with Cersei solely to try and convince her to surrender, and then Daenarys gets betrayed when Cersei finds out about how they plan to stand down when they hear the bells. She decides to use the bells as a trap, simultaneously pulling her brothers in as unwitting co-conspirators. Then kind of escalate it from there. Maybe have Jaime be the one to put her down eventually.

Increasing the betrayals on Daenarys side would have helped transition her abrupt change too as showing mercy would have backfired on her.

Its like they legit didn't want anything satisfying to happen at all lmao. Writing only for the sake of twists after people are already apathetic to twists and not having any catharsis or pay off for years of actual setup = Everyones time was wasted and they'll forget the good time they had leading up to it because of how pointless it ended up being in EVERY aspect.

I was saying since season 2 that Dany would break bad in a big way with them dragons. It was fairly obvious, and every season cemented it more. I legit don't see how people were surprised. That said,

Daenerys should have just targeted the Red Keep and from there a chain reaction of wildfire explosions spread throughout half of Kings Landing, inadvertently fulfilling the Mad Kings plan.

Season 8 retroactively ruined every previous season for me. All of the great subplots of the show mean nothing knowing they will end so stupidly. Seasons 5-7 were nearly as bad as season 8, but at least at the time of their airing there was always hope that season 8 could fix the previous seasons' issues.

Jaime got done dirty.

Like I know that sort of emotional relapse can be a thing, but that's not how his development went. Same with Dany. If that's how they wanted them to go, it needed more time and better effort.

Edit: like there's a way to make Jaime's decision make sense within his arc and culminate in a tragic "you were so close" moment, but it needed more time to cook and less definitive character moments establishing his growth to make it work.

5-7 had a lot of stupid shit with good moments littered throughout them. they were fumbling, but it was entirely possible they could save themselves since there were still a lot of good scenes. then came season 8, and well... yeah

I still upsets me that they made a season that was so fucking awful it was like they asked people who had no idea about the characters to make it.

Fuck me, nearly everyone did 180 development turns, did the strangest of things in some attempt to fit an already made ending and just ruined the character of everyone/their intelligence to make others look better.

Put me off wanting to ever go back and watch it again, knowing just how bad it gets.

Although I hate the crap in episodes 4-6, it doesn't bother me too much since I had already mentally shut down after the most powerful and dangerous enemies in the series were beaten by one stabby gurl who can jump real high.

7 and 8 could have been good if they didn't rush it to all hell and back. Then again, the beyond the wall episode in 7 is one of the most stupid things I've ever seen in my life. The show took a huge nosedive in 6 and then bottomed out in 7 and 8. Absolute horse shit.

I feel like if around like, season 4-5 if you told someone how the story ended, everyone would be "yeah that sounds great, I can't wait to see how we get there!", its just season 7 and 8 were so rushed that we never got a chance to actually get to the ending and everything felt wrong.

It makes it both great and frustrating. They wrapped up and fucked the show to leave for Disney/Netflix, and got booted as a result of rushing. No one won in the end.

I think a big part of the problem was that a bunch of narrative decisions were made based on them wanting to give the actors what they felt was a proper send-off. Biggest victim here is Jaime, who had no reason to actually go back to Cersei other than the production spent so much time with Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Lena Headey together on set that it felt wrong to not have those two actors end up in the scene together.

Basically they did the equivalent of if they brought Sirius Black back from the dead in the last Harry Potter movie just because Gary Oldman is such a charm to work with.

I will say that I've never understood the hate for Jamie's line there. Jamie always cared about innocents, but he always claimed otherwise. It's in Tywin's first scene of the show.

"I could care less [sic] what people think about me."
"That's what you want people to think about you."

Given that they'd reverted him to his season one self, it makes sense that he said that.

Hurrr rocks smash on head.
I think a previous mention of hurrr rocks smash on head was one of the first cracks in the foundation of the show. When Tyrion and Jamie are talking in Tyrion's cell, they talk about a dimwitted cousin who used to spend all day smashing beetles with rocks.

D&D removed the Tysha aspect of Tywin's murder and it's believed that it's because they thought viewers had forgotten about her. This despite the fact that the hurrr rocks smash on head scene could have been used to remind people about her. Without that motivation, Tyrion's character starts to suffer.

GoT was ruined because the directors wanted to abandon it to direct some star wars movie.

It was hilarious when the SW project was ripped away from them, now they're only known as the guys that fucked up GoT, and are completely unprofessional/unreliable as directors.

Pretty sure they always wanted to do their trope of "hurting the audience and going against expectations" again and fuck us over with the Brienne/Jaime relationship as well, after his knighting her.
