What is the WORST Side quest in the FF series, in your opinion?

The BEST Summon, without a doubt in the FF series, goes straight to Bahamut. KOTR came in a not so close second with about only half the votes. I voted for Bahamut Zero, so I'm sad they didn't win.

These were the ones that obviously set me off in places, so we have a big fat Other category to smooth things out.

Personally I liked Chocobo Hot n Cold, but from our very first topic in the series, a lot of people hated it. Now I'm tackling that onto the fact that it is REQUIRED in order to fight the big bad optional boss of FF9. For those that hated it, that's just a downer.

If you vote Other, Other, Other, or Other, be sure to let us know what bad side quest/activity you think deserves the (poop) cake

Worst Minigame: Dodging Lightning via FF10
Best Gameplay Mechanics: Set classes and (learnable) abilities via FF4/6/9

Does Pitioss in FFXV count as a side quest? Or an optional dungeon?

Cuz that's my answer.

I'd say the Pink Tail in FF4 is goddamn annoying. There's a tiny room which contains a 1/64 encounter, which has a 1/64 item drop. You wouldn't even know its there under normal circumstances; the game doesn't tell you anything about the room is special nor where the pink tail is located. Odds are you never even get in a single fight there due to its small size; go in, open the treasure chest in the middle, leave.

But my vote goes to FFX, because there's a hint of skill required for all of lightning dodging, butterfly dancing, chocobo racing, etc. Whereas FF4 is just mind numbing, dreadfully boring grind.

Damn, who hates the Ancient Castle? My spirit monster lives there :( (or at least in chest in a room outside)

I feel like the Celestial Weapons are the obvious choice, since they contain some of the most hair-pulling minigames ever committed to the series; the only upside is that getting Wakka's second sigil is the best excuse the game gives you to play Blitzball extensively. If navigating FF XII's Great Crystal to find Ultima / Omega Mark XII is that frustrating, you can download a map off of this very website; there is no outside aid that can help you master Lightning Dodging apart from heavy drinking.

Deep Dungeon in FFT.
It's a Disgaea-style grind, in a game that's nowhere near Disgaea's levels of absurdity.

Coasting by while Orlandu murders everything suddenly ceases to be a viable strategy.

Then again, it suddenly shifts to being one of the best sidequests once you can survive, because it's a great grinding area, and also because Ninjas start tossing rare katanas at you at higher levels.

It wont win, but shout out to that one side-quest in FF9 that most of the gaming community was unaware of for 15 years, because its based on a throwaway line that requires a bunch of back tracking after reaching Memoria at the end of the game, and the reward is super lame>_>

there is a spot in the thunder plains where if you run to it triggers a lightning strike
getting the necessary lightning dodges is a lot easier when you take out the randomness
its still tedious and boring but you wont mess up when you know the lightning is coming.

Monster arena in FFX. Capturing 10 of every random enemy is tedious thanks to every area having that one rare encounter that takes longer to get 10 of then everything else in that area combined.

The celestial weapons. Chocobo racing and lightning dodging. Just, ugh. Rage inducing nonsense.

Greatly contributes to my inability to replay the game even 20 years later. A single thought about it just kills any desire.

The Nero brothers thing? A protect ring is pretty nice. It isn't the Excalibur III or whatever else it could have been, but it isn't bad by any means.

I guess FFX if considering all the celestial weapons as one sidequest since there's a lot of tedium in there (especially the hours of Blitzball since it's trivial to win every match after a certain point).

Zodiac weapon quest line in FFXIV before they nerfed the requirements deserves a shoutout though. That was a lot of tedium.

This. They don't have markings to say "something's different." I restarted and got 2 of 3 ZSs, but didn't use them (defense penalty; ZEs are better).

they made it easier to get the spear in the hd remaster in ff12
now the chests dont make it lost forever you just gotta keep going in an out until it spawns.

they added a new ultimate weapon instead called the seitengret bow
which has max attack. even at level 1 the bow will deal over 10000 damage

the chest its in is invisible
it only has a 1 in 1000 chance of actually spawning
and then if it does spawn it only has like a 1 in 600 chance of actually having the bow

though you can cheat the RNG system to guarantee you get it but ive tried and it never works for me

It's one of the worst of the rare items to get in the game, but there are plenty of other items with horrendously stupid methods to get them in the game too if you want to really 100% complete it. It could take literally years to get them all if you did it legitimately, but thankfully you can manipulate the RNG for all of them (but that still takes many hours). I wouldn't consider them sidequests, but if they were then they would blow every other option on the list out of the water.

if you beat the main game you unlock new game plus which lets you start the game over at level 90 right from the start for all your party members

if you beat the trail mode that you can do from the title screen then you unlock new game minus which makes you unable to gain experience so everyone stays level 1

here is a video of someone beating the hardest boss in the game in new game minus mode. he or she had multiple seitengret bows
the bow is invisible like the chest its in
