Trump is currently impeached for the second time. You're asking if he'll be convicted, which I suspect is a long shot. I'd love to be surprised once though.

like, are there any plausible scenarios in which it doesn't actually go through?Yes, there is. Senate procedure drags on long enough that there's no way this gets done by Wednesday. And that's probably what's going to happen. Oh, and since no one on CE seems to get it, impeachment is not the same as leveling criminal charges, impeachment just determines if he gets removed from office. --- let's lubricate friction material! ~nickels, Cars & Trucks ... Impeachment is the actual trial. Case in point, Clinton was impeached but was not convicted due to some SERIOUS dictionary gymnastics (no seriously, he basically legally told the truth while lying.) Conviction is a removal from office. cavalierking posted... so if it's not looking like he'll actually get removed, then was everything that happened yesterday p much just theater?Pretty much, but at the same time, I don't think the US has ever bothered to impeach a president less than a week before he'd be out anyway, so there's no constitutional precedent for what happens. --- let's lubricate friction material! ~nickels, Cars & Trucks ...
