You know they're going to do some bullshit that will insulate them from having to go on the record for being opposed to it.

That really devalues the medal and shows selfishness of current congress

This guy pushed a guy. Yawn. I mean that's good he did that but let's put this medal in context of other recipients:

George Washington
Neil Armstrong
Michael Debakey

People with a lifetime of achievements

and this guy pushed a guy

really devalues the medal\

Like when an entire unit got the medal of honor just for showing up in the civil war (rescinded later)

He pushed a guy to attract the attention of a mob and lead them away?

ETA "an achievement that has an impact on American history or culture"

Yeah

So do you put him in the same category as the people I mentioned??

I'm not saying what he did was bad or not noteworthy, but come on, it devalues washington's medal....

I'd say it puts him on the level of the rescuers of the U.S. Brig Somers (1847), Cornelius Vanderbilt for donating a steamship (1864), George Robinson for actions to protect William Seward during an assasination attempt (1871), Captain Jared Crandall for rescue operations of the steamer Metis (1873), etc

You had to scroll pretty far down that list to find some iffy ones, and even then his is less deserved.

It's mostly a solid list of significant lifetime achievements or heroics. If this guy was, I dunno, shot after he pushed him I guess I'd be on board.

I'm just not a fan of knee-jerk reactions and prefer things be viewed in context.

I'd say this guy getting it is more meaningful than guys like Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus for... being good golfers and "promoting good sportsmanship".

Actually i just started looking from the top (hence why I stopped at 1873, hadn't even looked at the 1900s). Mostly is subjective, so to be specific you believe Vanderbilt deserved it more for donating a steamer? Or Rev Quinn for holding off a gunman threatening an elderly couple?

He didn't just "push a guy."

He led the terrorists away from an open door that would have allowed protesters unabated access into the senate chambers.
