It's been an old school kind of day for me. I've been listening to Dead Kennedy's and Bad Brains.

When I was a teenager I was. Now it all just sounds mostly like people who don't know how to play their instruments or sing properly to me, ok?

Yes, that's the genre. Punk pretty much evolved out of Fugazi not knowing how to play anything

I wouldn't say I was a fan, like there would be some songs I would like and listen to but I don't go out my way to explore the genre, but I don't mind it There's some songs by Tsnuami Bomb I like, like Lemonade and No One's Looking, funny is that only reason I looked up some of there songs is because one of their singles was in the first Disgaea.

I have lots of favorites across the genre. I used to listen to The Misfits a lot more, but have been disappointed in Michel Graves being a member of the Proud Boys. The Danzig stuff is better anyway.

Love a good handful of DK songs.

I like stuff like The Locust, Dead Cross, Dillinger Escape Plan, Retox...punk ethos but obviously a bit different.

I'd say my favourite punk vibe bands are Cows, The Jesus Lizard and Butthole Surfers.

Much more into pop punk, but I do like the the ramones a lot. probably because they were heavily surf music/beach boys influences and it really shows listening to their music

I'm not a huge fan of punk (though the Ramones are decent) but I do really enjoy pop punk or at least Blink, Sum 41, The Offspring and 90s Green Day

Ah man, the Germs. They aren't my favorite but they are fun.

As somebody who mainly grew up with whatever was on the radio(until i determined the radio punk rock was what I liked and then went down a hole i am still in today), I had a hard time processing the song "Forming" as a teen. Not just the way it was crafted, the production work.

Which brings me to something I care about a lot, in the sense I am a listener who has never been in a studio: production.

It can ruin albums. I was reading a comment on the infamous 2013 album What the...? by Black Flag I thought was boneheaded. They couldn't grasp why so many people cared about the production on a punk album. The prodction on this album is what makes this shit go from forgettable to something you'll never forget. The production on this album is totally off and makes it almost unlistenable, before you can even get to Greg Ginn playing Theramin. A lot of classic punk production is kinda minimalist, but it isn't invasive either. It kinda lets the music speak for itself in some ways because you need to listen in a little harder than other types of music.

So, as a kid, it took me a while to grasp it. When I first got in to Bad Religion I really only cared for the 2000s until I got into the sound from the 80s and early 90s. Now, I definitely prefer stuff that is under produced. Growing up listening to top 40 stuff almost ruined my taste, because I had never heard anything recorded like some 70s and 80s punk before.

That's because pretty much any punk band with actual talent either becomes pop punk or ska

Agreed. I admittedly mostly like stuff like Sum 41, All Time Low, Gob, and the more pop-punk music. It just sounds nicer and is more upbeat. The THPS soundtracks were typically a goldmine for a good sampling of punk. I also enjoy some of the more traditionally punk stuff like The Distillers, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, The Clash, or Rancid. But some of it is just too out there and I think it sounds awful. My cousin is really into the more hardcore stuff like Screeching Weasel and that's not my thing.

As far as I can tell, without listening to too much MCR, they formed out of the Emo genre in the early-mid 00s when it became more commercialized. Emo formed out of the DC hardcore scene in the mid 80s, so I'll say yes.

I would agree on MCR being some form of punk.

I appreciate and have enjoyed all the music shared thus far, and I enjoy many of the artist named here. Thank you everyone
