1. White Privilege allowed them to not be seen as a threat until it was too late.
2. But it also means they had too much to lose and dispersed once shit got real.

Ive been thinking a lot about why they really didnt try to hold the Capitol. It was on their mind. They brought the zip ties for hostages, theyre on camera talking about taking the building, and the had overwhelming force. They had enough people to take the cops hostage and use their weapons.

And I keep coming back to one thing - white privilege. All these people knew they had shit to lose if they went through with their fantasy. I could rush that cop and fight to take back my country, but my PS5 just shipped and I still havent finished all the Christmas cookies at home.

All these people knew they had major shit to lose if things escalated to a fight. Theres no sense to throwing everything away to get to the top if youre already at the top. I think some form of that realization kicked in when they got inside the building. So all the talk of revolution turned into selfies and unguided tours.

But you can't deny that these people have hearts. Most of the deaths seem to be from heart attacks... I guess you could say they dont use their heart much though

99% of the people who got into the capitol didn't have zip ties or any weapons. They were dumb rednecks who wanted to feel important and take selfies to show their friends. The scary thing is that if real trained and well equipped enemy forces decided to storm the capitol it seems like they would have been very successful. We need militarized police at all important federal buildings 24/7.

Except the reason that there weren't more troops at the capital riot wasn't because they were white, but because the DC mayor turned down additional support specifically because she didn't want the response to seem heavy handed.

Bowser requested, and received, a limited force from the D.C. National Guard. They numbered 340, though they were unarmed and their job was to help with traffic flow not law enforcement which was to be handled by D.C. police.

Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy, who helps oversee the D.C. National Guard, said there were multiple meetings with Capitol Police before Wednesday's rally, and that police force did not request any additional help.

My tinfoil hat says it happened to scare the non-HxC trump supporters back to the other side of the republican party and for the gop to get distance

The Dems don't mind it, because they almost lost twice to the guy

There's no need for a tin foil hat conspiracy. Just read the NPR article. The DC mayor was pissed when Trump deployed all those troops during the BLM protests, the one where they smoke screened a bunch of people away so that Trump could take a photo op in front of a church. She didn't want to repeat of that scene, but if she accepted Federal support it would have meant she would also have to cedr control of the operation, so she intentionally refused additional support to make sure that she would have control over how many police were deployed.

She specifically states that there is an actual risk of violence from armed individuals, but was concerned that plainclothed federal officers that were used in other protests might cause confusion among her officers as they try to identify dangerous armed individuals.
