I used to, alot. Now, with my neck problem, I just tend to hike up hills, or cycle.

Just take it easy and in time your definition of "Easy" will change dramatically and you'll look back on it all and realize how much you improved. Distance running isn't one of those things where you have to Max Out every single time, you just have to go out and show up. That 15 minute mile will turn into a 10 minute into an 8 minute and then you'll be doing 7 minute miles with no effort on any of your regular runs. You'll sprint something under 6 minutes eventually and it'll feel like you just started running yesterday.

Hardest thing about running is just having the patience for it.

my biggest motivation besides hopefully running a marathon was a desire be able to keep eating Burger King lol

but I remember I was so proud when I was finally able to run through that stabbing knife cramp you get under the ribs heh literally a fuse on a bomb that made me always wanna stop @_x

gonna see how it goes this year and definitely heed the words of a wiseman

I run 5 days a week, usually between 5-10km each run. Honestly don't know how people can think is boring, it's honestly a lot of fun to me.

Shit like weights is boring, god knows how anyone can do that day in day out without dying of boredom

I've been running since senior year of my HS around my city. 6 Years later and I still do. About 2-3 times a week but usually mostly work out (soccer fitness) most of the week.

Heck i've jogged so much that usually my friends, past teachers and workers would be like "brah I saw you running the other day".

Are these running shoes good enough or do I need something that protects my foot more?

I will hopefully soon. The doctor told me it may take 2 months for the swelling from my surgery and hydrocele to fully go down. Running with a large hydrocele was pretty awkward and frustrating. Hopefully in few months I'll be able to run like I did years ago.

No

I ran track and cross country in middle and high school. I have zero interest in doing it again as an adult.

Ive tried a ton of running shoes in my life and I got ASICS Gel Kayano last year and theyve been the best shoe by far. Not the most stylish looking shoe, but its given me the best support and still holding up.

After a while you'll better understand and get a feel for what you want out of a running shoe. Until then just get whatever one of these Swiss Army Knives sounds most appealing to you and put about 300 miles in them.

Kayano and Nimbus are definitely the gold standard, depending on whether you want support or cushioning.

My genetics is an excuse used by people that do not want to put forth any minimal level effort. In a world where people are freely allowed to discriminate against others based on their hair or height, fat shaming is perfectly acceptable. I dont lose my cool when a woman tells me I am not her type, but heaven forbid any person regardless of their gender identity fat shames others and refuse to date anyone that has a waistline that greatly exceeds the number of their age lol. In the same way that being an alcoholic is not healthy, neither is being clinically obese.
You are unequivocally wrong and a horrible person

@Flockaveli I have worked up to my first 40mi/wk over the last four months but I'm still pretty slow, doing my long runs at 10:30 - 11:00 pace if I don't want to be sore

I do one 2mi fartlek and one 2mi tempo run per week. Should I focus harder on those or is getting faster 90% just banking more high mileage weeks?

It's amazing the difference having the right type of shoe can make when you run. I can't emphasize enough to buy a shoe with cushion made for running.

I was suffering knee and ankle pain while running and doctors initially told me I was likely getting arthritis and told me to cut down on running. I cut down on running but the knee pain was getting worse. I eventually got x-rays done on my knees and there was no sign of arthritis symptoms. Eventually the doctor just suggested I tried getting new shoes. I had some cheap old sneakers that I probably got at Walmart. I invested in $150 running shoes with extra cushion and the knee pain went away almost instantaneously.

I'll also add that my mileage and speed suffered drastically after changing shoes, mainly because I had become so accustomed to running 5k's with bad form in bad shoes, that running in proper form was challenging for me. I was feeling pain in calf muscles I never felt before, likely because the impact was hitting my knees moreso than most muscles.

It really is about the shoes. My feet are stupidly built, and I had an ankle injury 15 years ago but I just recently went to the orthopedics and found out how bad they really are. Got some shoes with proper support and custom orthopedic inserts and my feet feel a lot better.

I don't buy this you probably just had bad form

You can run barefoot without ever getting knee pain

Yeah cushioning is more of a luxury and what matters most is support, so how your actual foot is positioned as in how the arch sits, how deep the heel cups down, forefoot width, heel to toe drop.

I'll take a good set of inserts over an inch of foam cushioning.

What I am saying is that the running shoes improved my running form. It's the only explanation as to why things changed drastically around the time I switched shoes. I didn't randomly choose to run differently. I think the shoes made it easier to run in better form.
