Not even a view worthy of praise. That should be the baseline.

Anyone who puts in 40 hours a week or more should not only make enough to pay their bills, but have money left over to save and invest.

Though ideally I think that we can work less hours, we can start here.

Or we can just check in with small "businses" to see what they think: https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2020/02/20/minimum-wage-increases-arent-a-job-killer-small-business-survey.html

Looks like only very few say it would actually affect their business. And maybe we can provide tax incentives for small businesses so we don't hurt them with this.

im sure instead of buying a 7th yacht for this year, a ceo could instead only buy 6, double their staff and double every salary in the company. theres literally no reason why billionaires need to exist, or even hundred-millionaires

If we took the amount of money that the CEO of Walmart made in a year and distributed it among all WalMart employees, each employee would get $10.74.

If we do the same with Amazon, each employee would get $2.13.

It's not as simple as just redistributing the yearly income (not salary, real income) of the CEO.

Yes, many CEOs are vastly overpaid, but simply redistributing that wouldn't really do much to help anyone.

Stockholders are much more to blame than CEOs. What is produced by their capital? Nothing.

Have any of them raised their wages to or at least near $15 by now though if its supposedly not a big deal? Seems like a l silly thing to admit to if they weren't going to follow through.

mininum wage is closer to 12$ right now within town. as a result prices are higher than other cities. 30% more on fast food items. 20% on supermarket food (unless you get it in a sale).

rent is massive (all places are 1k mininum per month).

I mean, their capital is literally what enables the company to start or expand.
Without that money, you are left with nothing. Take away the ability for them to profit, and the whole idea of a startup dies as most rely on money from investors to fund their initial start. Investors aren't going to put money into something that they literally can't gain anything from. Economics isn't a field where simple solutions even exist. You can't just "press X" to solve the economic issues of the world. Every action you take has positives and negatives. You have to weigh them and decide if the costs are worth the benefit you gain.

I am speaking in the literal sense capital does not produce anything. No matter how much money someone has, if they cant convince someone to labor in return for it, then nothing is produced. Hence, it is the labor that actually, literally produces things.

Funny you bring up CEO pay rather than annual profit. Here's some numbers for you, number guy. Wal-Mart's revenue in 2019 was 514 BILLION dollars. If you paid each of Wal-Mart's near 1.5 million employees $5 more an hour, in 8 hours a day, for some 204 work days a year, it would equal an additional... 12.24 billion dollars. Not even 3% of their astounding yearly revenue.

Would you like for me to number-crunch Amazon?

Living wage means just that, a roof over your head and food. It would be nice to save a little bit for later as well.

I really don't think people expect the privilege of being able to buy the latest video games and technology at their whim unless they're paid handsomely. We just don't want to have to work two or three jobs and work ourselves to an unhealthy degree just so we can have the essentials.
