Fuck crypto and it's affect on the video card market. Been waiting since september to find one in stock to replace my current one, but cryptopminers keep buying up all the stock which caused the scalpers to move in and buy up any remaining stock.

Not the first time this has happened either, took around 4 months to find my current card back a few years ago due to miners buying up all the stock.

well that's kinda selfish.

it hasn't hurt the market this time as badly as it did last time. The hurt this time is supply issues, mainly, not demand issues. There hasn't been a card released that's affordable to the common (rationally-spending) person since the 1660.

Nah fuck crypto in general. Even without video games this shit is using so much fucking energy that it's one of the biggest sources of climate change problems.

You've received some wrong information.

It doesn't exactly help, but it's a relative drop in the bucket compared to conventional fossil fuel usage in industrial applications.

Supply issues are a thing yes, but what little stock is making it over is instantly purchases by bots run by miners.

NVIDIA and AMD have recognized this and realize it's huring their brand image, and have taken steps (unsuccessfully so far) to curb miners from getting the cards in the hopes they'll go to the intended market.

Fuck them, I hope their investments go down the drain as quickly as possible.

Let me rephrase what I said to what I actually meant in my head.

The carbon emissions caused indirectly by crypyomining are accelerating faster than any other industry at the moment.

While industrial fossil fuels are "the worst" much of that is burnt up to generate electricity that is partially being consumed by crypyomining, and it's using more and more every day.

I would absolutely be happy for the entire crypto market to go under on a completely selfish viewpoint. Admittedly I want that to happen since gaming had been one of my biggest hobbies forever and it had kinda gotten in the way of my upgrades.

But, I realize at this point it's going to cause a lot of people some problems so hope if they tackle it they don't just blanket screw over everyone. Do agree it needs something to tone down how easy it is to use for illegal shit though.

That's why you must report any cripto gains on your taxes. In that sense I don't see how the money laundering via bitcoin is any different from whatever other money laundering options exist.
