I feel like I've taken actually being able to taste my food for granted. This shit is seriously frustrating, especially when you still have an appetite. I can tell when something is salty or spicy but that's pretty much it.

Has anyone here had any success with training it back? I've heard people smelling an onion or essential oils helped bring the senses back faster.

I think when you get it back is all circumstantial on a case by case basis. My gf only lost hers for a couple of days but one of my coworkers lost theirs for a few months and still hasnt fully gotten it all back.

I think the trouble breathing would be the worst part, well if you get that part. Had asthma as a teen and that sucked ass.

Oh my gods, YES. When I lost my smell I was angry, then sad, then when it came back I was so happy even after getting a wiff of fresh dog shit I was like "I'm back baby!" before dry heaving.

Well yeah. We were lucky enough to not have gotten the really bad symptoms. Ours was equivalent to a sinus infection, luckily. The fatigue is brutal too.

I was thinking about this. Wondering what's the healthiest thing that I could possibly eat is that normally tastes bad. It sucks because the cravings are still there for junk food. There's no point in eating it though.....which is kind of nice I guess.

Extremely rare and almost unheard of in mild cases.

Early on a lot of the lung damage reported on was caused because of doctors limited knowledge on the virus and they ended up blowing out people's lungs with respirators.

@F1areaGaman now you do realize this virus has only existed for 1 year and they'll be studying the long term effects for several years to come, right? You are completely wrong in your post, even asymptomatic people show lung damage. So please stop spreading misinformation.

Oh wait, this guy has spammed other topics saying it's "not a hoax but it's exaggerated, no one I know has died". Aaaaaand ignored.

I could still "taste" sweetness, saltiness, and spiciness. Other than that it was nothing. Lasted about a week and a half. I honestly didn't mind that part too much, used it as an opportunity to eat food I don't like.

I'm not dead (yet) so I couldn't tell you. I'm sure that'll suck a bit worse, but then again will I even know that I'm dead when I die? Maybe the afterlife (if it exists) is better than my current existence.

shame that you think so little of covid, you bashful egotistical maniac thinking your taste and smell is so vital that you would not even consider your death being more offputting.

when you're dead, youre dead.

imagine going through covid, surviving and having to live your remaining life without smelling or tasting?

thats torture, most people would feel is worse than death.

Has it been proven that you can never smell / taste again after getting Covid?

it ranges - I lost mine for 3 weeks. Came back but a lot of things taste different and/or weird. This was over 6 months ago.

I know there are some people who still havent recovered their sense of smell or taste. Even after a month.

well, despite all the bullshittery from me in this topic, that fucking sucks. I wish anyone with affected taste buds and olfactory sensors a full recovery sooner, rather then later.

I had covid, I know many people who have had it. And personally, not one person I know has complained about symptoms being worse than headaches, slight fever and congestion.

im not saying severe reactions dont exist. But the huge majority of cases recover perfectly fine with baseline symptoms.

the lungs being compromised happens in the most extreme and rare cases.

4000 people dying a day from it, 400,000 total in the US. We get it, it doesn't kill literally everyone. But shrugging it off because it didn't kill you is batshit insanity.

This virus has existed for only a year, they're still studying long term effects. Early studies have shown that yes, it can damage your lungs and heart even if you didn't have a serious bout with it.

I don't have Covid but I do have cancer & chemo which also screws up taste buds.

I lost 30 years worth of long hair, a beard I hadn't shaved in about 15 years and half my taste buds cause of chemo. June or July is about when the hair & full taste should be back, they say 3 months after last treatment.

Taste buds being screwed up sucks for some things but it also inhanced it with other stuff.

Like apples taste like nothing but water when I bite into them.

The taste of Blueberries has grown stronger.

If I drink a ginseng and honey tea all I taste is the ginseng. Blackberry & mint , all ill taste is the mint..
