I'd say so. It's definitely a Kojima game, but hiking around, repairing roads, and managing load balance is oddly meditative and satisfying.

Making zipline routes to expedite deliveries is especially satisfying.

basically, iirc - *early game spoilers there were two big bangs, one that created the universe and one that created some kinda weird afterlife, and when you die, it sends you to that weird afterlife, and you can drag yourself back (I think the main character, Sam, is one of the few special people with that ability)

Yeah, something you learn very early is that *very early spoilers* Sam is a "repatriate" who, once he goes to the "Seam" upon death, he can just get himself back out. Not everyone is a repatriate. Seems like there is no actual fail state in the game. In fact, the very first voidout in the game consumes Sam and you have to pop out. The game just doesn't tell you that the same thing will happen every time you "die".

The map is incredibly well designed though. I can look at a screencap of the game and I know exactly where it is in the world map and could get there myself without directions.

Yeah, by the end of the game, players should know the map pretty damn well, given how often they're traversing on foot, driving on highways (hopefully), and ziplining like a boss. Although it can be argued some of that is boring, actually getting to know the world intimately like that is part of the fun. That said, I did miss finding the Ludens Fan and Musician until I'd beaten the game, so maybe some things can be overlooked. :P

Hooo dude I got a BIG score off some MULEs. It's the server recovery mission, and I ganked one of their trucks and loaded it with everything it could carry. Then I used the materials to finish roads leading straight back to Lake Knot City and cruised into town in style.

Info on MULE camps (gonna spoiler tag it just in case you don't want to see this):

MULE camps are great for finding tons of resources. Each one specializes in a resource type, so you can horde them (in a town/distro center's private locker) until they're needed. I think roads mostly take ceramics and some type of metal, so they're always useful; others, like resins, are far lower on the totem pole. Don't forget to raid those cylindrical lockers they hide around, too, as they can contain resources naturally + those taken from other players.

Might have to make a few trips to get it all, but they don't respawn once you're out of sight or anything, so it's stress-free looting. Hopefully other players made bridges and stuff to help things along, since some MULE camps are built around gorges and other annoying geographical features.

I bought it for PC when it was on sale on Steam.

I already have the PS4 version and beat it, I'm just going through it just to see how it looks on PC with everything maxed out. I'm shocked that the regular PS4 was able to run games like this.

As a heads up to everyone playing, I'd wait until chapter 5 before you start making a ton of deliveries to remote locations. Once you get zip lines, it completely changes the way you get around the map. Obviously do some deliveries so you get the bandwidth to place them in the first place. Also, when you start making deliveries to the Craftsmen, he gives you special grenades to use against BTs. I made the mistake of bringing items with niche uses along with me everywhere, and they'd get destroyed by timefall before I got to use them. They trivialize BT fights, and it took me awhile to realize it. Put spoilers just in case you don't wanna know about specific early mechanics, but I don't think they're spoilers personally.

Kids, don't stack Fragile Cargo too high on top your back-stack.

Because if you try to leave the area and BANG the top box gets knocked off and half broken, it'll be too hilarious.
