Is this normal for video game ads. I don't even know what it's referencing in the game.

Also posting because youtube's algorithm: Video's been around for 3 years, youtube all of a sudden puts in on the front page. And I doubt it's because I recently beat the games either.

When you're about to die one of your orcs will sometimes save you, though this has less to do with a noble bond and more because they SERVE THE BRIGHT LORD.

Its referencing the loyalty dynamic with the nemesis system in the game

I finally decided to finish the real last mission about a week or so ago and I was about to die and an orc saved me for the first time. I hadn't had that happen to me before then and I put over 60 hours into the game at that point.

Also, during my finishing of the playthrough I had random followers show up with "gifts" of enemies for me to kill. That was also something I'd never encountered before. lol

That explains why I never encountered this mechanic, if it takes that long to randomly encounter it. I mean 60 hours though?

It's a maybe 20 hour game, 25-30 if you're faffing about, but I'm amazed you put 60 hours into it when it's so short with no story.

When I realized the last chapter of the game was literally no cutscenes or story and just me playing the fort defense/attack missions I usually trudge through, I was like good god what a gyp. And I got this game for free. I can't imagine having actually paid for it.

It's not that short, there is a story(it's terrible), and I completed the game 100% which takes a bit of time. I liked the combat so walking around killing people is fun. It's also something that Gamepass asks you to do for Microsoft Rewards. I could see someone doing it in about 35 hours or so though. I did a little bit of the "online" stuff, but mostly killing revenge missions. I don't care much for the fortress defense as much as I like hunting Captains.

While there are several achievements left, I don't care about them too much, so I'm not spending any more time on the game until XGP has another mission for it.

I didn't find the combat too great. I was fine with it being derivative of arkham and ac, but it doesn't do anything nearly as well as them to warrant playing anything more than a basic playthrough. The combat was more frustrating than rewarding, and building might was worse in the second game than the first game. Completing those fort defense missions at the end just seemed unnecessarily tedious, I'd never seen that level of tedium in a game before, it legit shocked me, even after playing mordor which did something similarly ridiculous.

That picture seems like a blatant, straight up lie though. This one is a lot more accurate

30-35 hours seems about right, if a little generous.

If it were something like AC Origins, yes I would absolutely play that game for 100 hours when it's so huge, it's like 10 times the size of those shadow games and has so so much stuff in it, from quests, to obstacles, to people, to animals, just a huge fun adventure from start to finish.

Not to mention ac origins is more of an action rpg with levels and stats, not the bizarre grind that shadow of war was, where you didn't get exp for killing orcs but still somehow the game expected you to grind to level 40 to unlock the legendary gear by recruiting an orc that was level 40 or higher.

Especially since you easily beat the game at level 30, 35 tops. You beat the game before ever being able to unlock a single piece of legendary gear.

Don't get me wrong it was a fine few hours to kill in between other games, but delving deeper into the mechanics is frustrating because it just reveals the entire bullshit that is this game's features. Heck, I actually preferred mordor's style of having just the one sword and armor that you level up. I felt way more powerful in that game and could kill an orc much quicker, even if that game had less substance and was like 10 hours shorter at 15-20 hours.

The length of these games wouldn't be so upsetting if it weren't for the fact that they just give off this feel of a long epic adventure, filled with enough wrpg material to last hundreds of hours. And since the lotr universe actually has that much content, it feels like missed potential. So when they do end as abruptly, hilariously, and unceremoniously as they do, it just leaves you feeling... "eh?"
