Make sure you wait an hour to brush if you've eaten anything acidic. Otherwise you can damage your enamel.

I mostly avoid brushing after orange juice, but I forget in most other cases.

This is fairly identical to my routine except I've been using a hydrogen peroxide mouth rinse after dinner.

Should I use mouthwash?

Using a mouthwash that contains fluoride can help prevent tooth decay, but don't use mouthwash (even a fluoride one) straight after brushing your teeth or it'll wash away the concentrated fluoride in the toothpaste left on your teeth.

They say that as if people can't just run some toothpaste over their teeth real quick once over with the toothbrush after the mouthwash.

It's this stuff, I'm pretty sure it's legit. Plus the toothpaste is flouride and so is the mouthwash, so even if you use mouthwash after brushing, you still end up with flouride on your teeth

You're acting as if I rinse my mouth then immediately run over to eat breakfast. After five minutes the taste is hardly noticeable. After ten minutes I'm already forgetting if I actually used mouth wash or not. It usually takes me that long to finish making breakfast.

the mouthwash I use says DON'T eat OR drink for some time after you use the mouthwash. maybe an hour or so, I forget.
I've used Listerine, Crest, and pharmacy brands, they all say the same thing.
I imagine the fluoride is busy coating the teeth or something like that.

^ this

that's why the "pre-breakfast mouthwash" makes no sense to me

you're supposed to wait half an hour before eating/drinking after using flouride mouthwash

Wait half hour after eating or drinking something before brushing. You can floss while you wait.

Use fluoride mouth wash but don't rinse your mouth for at least half an hour. I use the mouth wash before bed or before I get in my car and drive to work.

ever had a cleaning where they measure your gum pockets with a number, the lower the better? I got a waterpik and cut those numbers in half a year later, I will never go without one again
