From what I remember, the weather was super bad and the pilot didn't want to take off, but someone pressed the issue to the point where they did attempt the trip. Not sure if it was Kobe, but someone caused that avoidable situation to happen.

I've been a Kobe fan since the first season I saw him play (where he crossed Jordan over so hard Jordan walked back half court just to give him props), but this is too similar to the Colin McCrae incident (his poor son...) for me to pity either of them (though I feel terrible for everyone else involved). --- Typical human signature, nothing to see here ... McCrae was a legend, I was shocked hearing about it.

Bill Burr is extensively careful and does even marginally risky maneuvers only under close supervision from an instructor.
