The Elimist Chronicles is a hit or miss with some people, as it is more about a guile hero not the normal blood and violence of the other books.

Remember that he was a gamer not a soldier, not a warrior just a normal teenager of his race. I liked it due to how he had to figure things out and that he was in over his head most of the book.

Well, Book 47 The Resistance was fucking awesome.

Kinda confused with the chapters featuring Jake's great uncle in the Civil War that were interspersed throughout but sure, okay.

Ellimist Chronicles is next on the list.

I was considering leaving it until the end and storming through the last five of the main series, but I'm guessing this is the recommended reading order and of course the last few books will probably feature the Ellimist and Crayak heavily, so I'll be starting it tonight.

Yeah this is more accurate. I personally think reading it after is better (that's what I wish I had done back then) but some people like it after 47.

I just started reading through after this topic, and man, it's dark from the first few chapters.

First Elfangor gets eaten, then when the kids are running away, Jake leaves a homeless guy to likely get killed by the Hork-Bajir chasing him. Not that I really blame him, but Jesus.

We're creating a ruleset for a DnD type Animorphs tabletop game, but with a lot less numbers and such. It's not going to be linear mission to mission type stuff, but an open concept where the players debate, scout and pick their targets. Still working the big stuff out but that post above has a poll we're running to test the waters.

On topic basically 45 onward are where series picks up steam. Cassie's morality gets very in the way and her and Rachel butt heads a looooot. Cassie also does some of the most messed up stuff morally through the books which is weird, especially after 19 when she fully reinvests into the group. I'm on 52 right now. I skipped 4-5(second helmacrons book) and few of the ones where it doesn't matter what order you read them or they're just 'filler'.

Finished book 49.

The families are saved,except Jakes. Tobias' mother is back. I like how it's all sort of boiling down to rescuing the families being the most important thing. Obviously it's been a recurring theme throughout.

I guess 49 was Tobias' final POV book. I've enjoyed him as a narrator for the most part.

Onto Book 50.

Well, I'm done. Oh man, I don't know how to feel. I'm kind of mad about the ending. But not really.

I get that K. A didn't want to end it as a happy ever after and with a message off "War never really ends". But it was a bit over done.

Half of the last book was spent giving out happy or at least satisfying endings. Marco was a celebrity having the time of his life. Jake was training morph capable soldiers. Ax had his own ship and was his own Prince. Tobias kinda retired. And Cassie was an environmentalist and Hork Bajir advisir and all that.

Great stuff. Should've ended there.

But then you want them all to get together again and keep fighting (minus Cassie) and have that one last hurrah and the Elfangor throwback of Jake saying "Ram that Blade Ship!"?

Great. That's awesome. But there was no need to add in a huge new enemy and there was no reason to kill off Ax. I mean, what the hell? I'd be glad to know that they're just going around cleaning up any renegade Yeerks. They really didn't need to give Ax such a shitty ending and imply that it was a fight they weren't going to win.

But anyway....I'm glad I came back to the series and finished it after so many years. I'll forever be a fan.

I might move on to another of Applegates's series now. Or try to find Michael Grant's sequel series to Gone.
