I don't think Buu Saga powerscaling makes a lot of sense.

SSJ3 Goku wasn't enough to overpower Fat Buu.

But SSJ3 Goku CAN go toe to toe with Kid Buu (who should be stronger than the previous two forms right?)

Goku sorta contradicts himself when talking about his SSJ3 form vs Fat Buu. When Piccolo asks if about it, he says he doesnt think he couldve.




But later, he tells Vegeta he couldve done it.



The later seems like it should take priority. He was skirting the issue with Piccolo, just so he could get the next generation to take the lead. So yes, SSJ3 Goku could beat Fat Buu.

Yeah afaik you can't sense God Ki unless you have used it yourself. However Jiren is as strong as gods while using mortal ki. He exerted so much pressure that the tournament audience thought they'd be flattened by his mere existence at one point as charged an attack at Goku

SS3 can be felt by anyone. Divine ki was introduced as something that couldn't be felt by anyone, yet we see characters commenting on that level of power often.

The journey from SSJ to SSJ3 always seemed strange.

SSJ gave great power but would tax you physically over time due to using energy just to maintain the transformed state.

Goku trained to the point that he could maintain SSJ without any energy drain right before the Cell games.

Goku learned SSJ2, which was basically non-draining SSJ with the power level amped way up.

Then he goes from two transformations that are very energy efficient to a third which is almost the opposite. It's very physically taxing and hard to maintain. And the bonus? He doesn't seem to be much more powerful than SSJ2.

I used to think "wow SSJ3 is so cool!" but really it's.....kinda lame. It never beat anyone of substance and aside from the first use of it was never even really presented as a huge increase in power.

The issue is the appearance of power. SSJ3 is vastly more powerful than SSJ2, but the show does a poor job of showing this.

With SSJ1, Freeza was the measuring stick. Nobody could touch him except Goku, and as their fight goes along, its revealed that Kaioken x20 Goku is even being toyed with. SSJ1 then not only wipes the floor with Freeza, but even 100% full power Freeza, after he doubles in power. Its very simple to tell how powerful this form is.

With SSJ2, we have already seen Vegeta and Trunks fail with USSJ (their buff forms). Goku runs circles around them as a FPSSJ, and Cell beats him without a ton of effort, even offering Goku the chance to have a senzu and rejoin the fight. We have a very good idea that Cell is beyond anything to this point. And then SSJ2 Gohan mops the floor with him. Again, the jump in power is very apparent.

With SSJ3, we never get that moment of B > A, but C >>>> B to put it over. We know its strong because of how Gokus friends react to it, how Vegeta reacts during the final fight vs Buu, and that Goku can go toe to toe with Buu... an opponent that crushed SSJ2 Vegeta. But we never see SSJ3 Goku overwhelm an opponent. All we can associate is Buu > SSJ2, SSJ3 = Buu (roughly). We dont get that moment of the form overwhelming an opponent. Even with Ultimate Gohan & SSJ3 Gotenks, we see them wipe the floor with Buu (albeit briefly). They get those moments. SSJ3 Goku never gets it.

SS2 and 3 are just powered up variants of Super Saiyan.

Toriyama stated that improving the SS form would lead to it being stronger.

SSJ3 felt useless. The drain it had outweighed the power increase. SSB in Super doesn't have the drain while being way stronger than SSJ3.

SSJ3 Goku could have killed Kid Buu but with all the fighting it was taking up too much energy and Kid Buu pretty much had unlimited energy or something. Its why Goku and Vegeta kept having to switch out.

Essentially Goku was always stronger than Majin Buu.

This. I wish SSJ3 got the a full redemption to put it in the same tier as SSJ1/2. At least have it fleshed out fully before introducing a new form.
