last topic purged. oops.

i'm starting to prefer Guan Yu for my spear runs. i got it up to lvl3 so the HP reduction is relatively manageable. still struggle at the start, especially on Extreme Measures Fury boss, but once I get up to like 100HP i'm usually good. i pretty much need quick spin on a hammer tho or i can't sustain HP on some harder fights / bosses

FUCK Minotaur and Theseus.

What's the best weapon and trinket thing I can use to beat them the 1st time?

i struggled with them for a long time, too. once you figure it out, it's not so bad. happy to give you some pointers.

the 'best' weapon will depend on what you're the most comfortable with. generally, the "safest" would be the shield.

for the keepsake, i had good success with a fully upgraded Acorn (absorbs first five hits from boss fight) to help absorb some of minotaur's heavy hits. you can also go with Skelly's Tooth for an extra revive if you're just trying to clear it for your first time. also recommend opting into the minotaur mini-boss fight if you have the option -- gives you good practice against him 1:1 and if you win he'll have 20% less HP for the actual boss fight.

I second all of this. Keep your distance from Theseus so the only attack he can use is the spear. Dance around the Minotaur focusing on evasiveness with occasional attacks while keeping an eye out for Theseus' spear throw. Once Minotaur is dead, then focus on Theseus.

+1 to these, and also leverage the pillars for defense. if you do this enough Thesseus will actually complain about it during the opening dialog. he's fucking hilarious

This game seems hellbent on making sure I am never able to get Poseiden's Riptide Boon.

And yes I know I need Poseiden's Aid first to get it...

And yes I do put on his Keepsake to try and help...

this is why i prefer Fated Persuasion over Fated Authority. getting the specific boon you want is so much more impactful to a run than re-rolling a door.

Yup. I'd actually suggest when you see the pink target on you, to put distance between Minotaur and hide behind a pillar. After the spear is thrown, close back in on Minotaur.

Well, I'm mostly just trying to complete the prophecies list

I've already had alot of succesful runs, so I'm not as concerned about that lol.

(and I do have Persuasion on as well, though I don't always go for keys to also get more persuasion so maybe I'll do that...)

Adding to this, get yourself a nice high damage call, save all your meter until Theseus does his own call (at half health) then unleash your greater call to burst him down. Depending on your call and how upgraded it is you might outright kill him from that

Same. Re-rolling doors almost never helps as much imo.

I'm only one achievement away from completing all of them, just have to max out a few keepsakes and I'm done!

Woot, got my first win tonight (Attempt #29). Cheesed it at the end with Athena's call, making Hades eat about 15 seconds worth of lightning attacks from the Chiron Bow's special. Took him down from half to a sliver of health

Same. After my first clear, I cleared another two times immediately. Really threw me for a loop.

tried shield aspect of Beowulf for the first try last night. my first boon was Artemis and i should have picked her cast, but she offered a rare attack so i went with it. held out for a while to get a cast and finally got Ares boon with Rare cast. i was hesitant, but went with it. it was a terrible decision because of how the cast projects forward after the charge ends, it was so hard to hit anything with it. then for my 2nd hammer i picked charged shot, which was another poor choice. my cast was almost useless and i ended up failing the run. lessons learned.

That is the hope. More than anything else, it's been his been swinging strike that has been doing me in. Once I get the timing of that down, I should be good.

yeah beowulf is basically 100% reliant on your cast. attack boon is ok to have but special boon I pretty much pretend it doesn't exist

the best one is poseidon imo, and after that artemis and I guess demeter. worst are dionysus, zeus and ares. the demeter boon that does little cold nova whenever you cast is also extremely good

I dunno, I just did a Beowulf run with Dionysus cast and it wrecked. I just had to be judicious with my casts, loading all of them up for one enemy was usually overkill, and you can't get them back right away. But I got an extra cast from Chaos, and in Styx I picked up Artemis' legendary so I had 6 by the end. Was able to nuke the shit out of Hades.

i fought the optional boss for the first time and, yeah, he's definitely the hardest fight of the game. dude hits like a freaking truck. didn't help it was in the first area and i only had one boon and a hammer. still managed to win, but it cost me all 3 DDs and i ended up dying on boss 3. was a hell of a run though.
