Poofy coat and oversized knitted gloves are "privileged" now?

Couldn't read the article, but did check in some tweet replies, some of which referenced direct quotes.

From what I'm getting, it seems one of the centerpieces of the article is that Bernie was "privileged" to be able to dress as he did during the inauguration, while those who were female or POC who attended were "required" to be dressed to make a statement?

Is that accurate to the article, or is that just the repliers reading too heavily into it?

EDIT: Never mind. Turns out the article was nice and short and I was able to speed it before the popup happened.

One interesting thing I did find in the replies was someone posting a record of this woman's political donations, all of them to Biden.

Sooooo, we're pretty much looking at a "liberal against Bernie" take. I was gonna say "hit piece", but it's not long enough to even be that. "He's not the cool and nice guy you think he is because he has white privilege and got all the attention for his outfit".

Couldn't read the article

here you go.
Three weeks ago I processed the Capitol insurrection with my high school students. Rallying our inquiry skills, we analyzed the images of that historic day, images of white men storming through the Capitol, fearless and with no forces to stop them. This, I said, is white supremacy, this is white privilege. It can be hard to pinpoint, but when we see, it, we know it.Across our Zoom screen, they affirmed, with nods, thumbs-ups, and emojis of anger and frustration. Fast-forward two weeks as we analyzed images from the inauguration, asking again, What do we see? We saw diversity, creativity and humanity, and a nation embracing all of this and more. On the day of the inauguration, Bernie Sanders was barely on our radar. The next day, he was everywhere.
What do we see? I asked again. Weve been studying diversity and discrimination in the United States; my students were ready. What did they see? They saw a white man in a puffy jacket and huge mittens, distant not only in his social distancing, but in his demeanor and attire.
We took in the meaning of the day, the vulnerability of democracy, the power of ritual, traditions and the peaceful transition of power.
We talked about gender and the possible meanings of the attire chosen by Vice President Kamala Harris, Dr. Jill Biden, the Biden grandchildren, Michelle Obama, Amanda Gorman and others. We referenced the female warriors inspiring these women, the colors of their educational degrees and their monochromatic ensembles of pure power.
And there, across all of our news and social media feeds, was Bernie: Bernie memes, Bernie sweatshirts, endless love for Bernie. I puzzled and fumed as an individual as I strove to be my best possible teacher. What did I see? What did I think my students should see? A wealthy, incredibly well-educated and -privileged white man, showing up for perhaps the most important ritual of the decade, in a puffy jacket and huge mittens.
I mean in no way to overstate the parallels. Sen. Sanders is no white supremacist insurrectionist. But he manifests privilege, white privilege, male privilege and class privilege, in ways that my students could see and feel.
When you see privilege, you know it, Id told them weeks before. Yet, when they saw Sen. Bernie Sanders manifesting privilege, when seemingly no one else did, I struggled to explain that disparity. I am beyond puzzled as to why so many are loving the images of Bernie and his gloves. Sweet, yes, the gloves, knit by an educator. So Bernie.
Not so sweet? The blindness I see, of so many (Bernie included), to the privileges Bernie represents. I dont know many poor, or working class, or female, or struggling-to-be-taken-seriously folk who would show up at the inauguration of our 46th president dressed like Bernie. Unless those same folk had privilege. Which they dont.

It's literally "Stop looking at Bernie! Stop it! He's not so cool!"

Also I notice she's speaking of a class she's giving, and yet omitting any kind of response her students themselves had, at least on the topic of the inauguration. "We talked about" various aspects that go around white privilege, but she doesn't actually have any responses that her students gave to this assertion.

Almost like this take is entirely in her own head and of her own making.

Liberal, which is not the same thing as leftist. Leftists want to actually materially improve conditions for minorities/women/everyone, liberals just want to be woke and go "oh of course you'd vote for the white man" to leftists who support Bernie's policies. They only care performatively about representation and not actual policy

She's not wrong about this. Y'all have to get this "if you say privilege, you mean evil" narrative out of your head.

It's a fact: there would have been an absolute uproar from certain crowds if someone like AOC showed up in this outfit. Acknowledging privilege isn't the end of the world.

We all have privileges that give us an advantage in certain situations. I'm white. If I go in a store, I don't have to worry about being racially profiled and followed by security. That's white privilege.

There's male privilege. There's skinny privilege. There's "no accent" privilege. It's not a word that means "everything is super easy for you." It's "this isn't instantly harder because you don't have this thing."

What Bernie wore was perfectly sensible for the weather. A good, thick winter jacket and mittens. I don't think it even looks that outrageous and neither did most people. God forbid if a woman wore it though. People would call her sloppy, manly, and disrespectful. It's actually completely legal in my state to require women (but not men) to wear an absurd amount of makeup to work.

That's actually false. Like, the saying. I know what you mean by it though.

Consider: would you find her words more "calm" if she were a man? I don't find them be particularly "angry" in the first place. "Annoyed," sure. It's not as though she's screaming that Bernie is evil for wearing a jacket.

Sanders is white and liberal and from vermont. I'm not sure saying he was priviledged or what that solves though. He probably was. So were a lot of these people and the idiocracy it breeds too. Sanders doesn't know everything. He at least has humility sometimes. I judge him more for that and who he is on other issues too and he's not always right.
