DoorDash at the very least is definitely way more expensive since the pandemic started. Like, doubling the bill expensive in my experience. Helps a lot to order directly from the restaurant if they deliver, which many more do now even if it's just ordering a DoorDash on their end.

The driver and the company need to make money and there's only so much of a hit the restaurant can absorb. A lot of those costs are fixed, so the pricing makes a lot more sense if you're ordering for multiple people.

(And I say this as someone who has been ordering dinner through DoorDash almost every day during the pandemic for just myself: the costs would not normally make sense for a single person without a ton of disposable income, and what I'm really paying for is the ability to minimize my covid exposure).

By the way, if you do order from one of these apps more than like twice a month, the monthly membership easily pays for itself in eliminated delivery fees (at least for DD; I assume it's the same for the others).

Considering what's going on, many of us want to limit supermarket trips.

Order delivery from a place that offers it specifically like Pizza, you are only paying two people. The restaurant and the delivery driver.

Order delivery using DoorDash or another app, you are paying three people. The restaurant, the driver, and the app.

Just go get it yourself. Takeout is a good excuse to change your surroundings for a few minutes

But you could just go through a drive through for roughly the same exposure.

ordering Doordash every day sounds bad for minimizing covid exposure, because you're having a human contact every day, as opposed to getting grocery curbside delivery every two weeks or so

This kind of statement is so dumb

If I wanted to go get it myself I wouldn't be ordering delivery

IDK what delivery you're getting but they 99.9% of the time just drop the food on your doorstep and half that time don't even ring the bell or knock and just rely on text/the app to notify you its there.

Thankfully there is curbside pick up at most places here (which is also true for many restaurants for that matter).

Because your lazy ass will pay it. That's it. it could def be cheaper because the services take a huge cut from the restaurants.
