To be perfectly honest, at this point I feel like if WWE is gonna be hokey, it needs to be completely hokey. Leave the good wrestling for NXT and other promotions. Bring back all the bright and colorful and stupid characters like in the early 90s and do cinematic matches more and just ham it the fuck up.

Or basically make the entire thing Southpaw. That'd work, too.

Oh, and I guess in more relevant news, Moxley and Kingston did their best with the Revolution dud. I don't think anything was going to save it, but they at least explained Kingston had a panic attack (much better watching it from Kingston's mouth than it typed out), and then they riffed on it, going back and forth until Moxley settled on Impact being the ones who paid for the bomb, which is why it didn't go off.

So Don and Kenny absolutely saved the explosion dud because they just relentlessly made fun of Kingston and Mox over it. They made it so we could feel bad that they were put in that position by those two.

Also it gave us "69 ME DON!" so it's all worth it in the end.

Responding to the botch by retconning your exploding deathmatch into goofy comedy doesn't exactly compel me to get invested in anything you try to portray as serious in the future

I think you're very confused about what happened.

Mox and Kingston sold it as very serious, with Kingston saying he just locked up due to a panic attack.

Don Callis and Kenny Omega came out and made fun of the fans for not getting what they wanted, being extremely tongue and cheek on whether or not it was intentional. And then Kingston came out and they made fun of him protecting Moxley when nothing happened.

The whole thing wasn't goofy comedy. Just the bit where they were making fun of Kingston and belittling him for how he looked like an idiot out there.

Omega and Callis are flailing around on the floor yelling about 69ing each other. If it's not meant to be goofy comedy it's literally worse than if it was. At some point I'd like to think that maybe a story involving guys hitting each other with exploding bats and barbed wire and all that shit should just maybe involve everyone involved actually being totally serious. It's only something that could legitimately kill you even if the final explosion is a dud after all.

It makes me not want to see them, period. Why should I want them to get beat up? So the next show can just do goofy comedy with it? Between the behind the scenes stuff with Khan asking why anyone would expect anything serious when Omega was involved and what's shown on screen with the EXPLODING BARBEDWIRE DEATHMATCH having little effect beyond setting up a joke I'm not buying into a beatdown as meaning anything, unless they plan on having Omega get decapitated on live TV I'm not buying anything that happens to him mattering. And I think we've established they don't have the special effects budget to pull that off convincingly.

This was the payoff to a match that contains a bunch of shit that could legit kill someone. I don't understand why anyone would want to get invested if even THAT won't be treated 100% seriously by everyone involved. And they already had Omega still goofing around a bit in the build up, and now he's goofing off again...to mock people...for thinking there was danger...in the deathmatch.
