Depends on the total size of the bill and if your brother in law knows the restaurant or server. Some of my favorite restaurants got destroyed by covid and are barely staying afloat. If I buy a normal $10 lunch and I'm the only customer in there, I'll tip 50 - 100% just to show support during these trying times. It's all subjective. Course I wouldn't do it if it's a $100 dinner bill.

i tip up to 30-35%, though probably 20-25% on average, except on drinks where I'll sometimes tip 100%
