Spectrum raised my bill by $20/month, so I figured I would at least hear what they had to say. I called AT&T first when I moved to this apartment because I knew they had fiber internet service in San Antonio. They didn't have fiber in this apartment complex, though, so their fastest speed package was 18 Mbps down and 2 Mbps up. So I went with Spectrum's 200 Mbps down and 10 Mbps up plan.

Got this call from this guy today:

Him: We can offer you fiber internet at your address, 100 megs with unlimited data.
Me: (Skeptical) What's the upload speed?
Him: It's 100 megs down and up
Me: OK. How are you doing that without fiber, though?
Him: We have fiber internet available for you, according to my system.
Me: I moved here a little over a year ago and AT&T told me they didn't have fiber in the apartment complex. AT&T hasn't run fiber to the apartment complex since I moved here.
Him: My system says we do have fiber available. Internet service improves all the time. We can offer you 100 Mbps internet.
Me: Yeah, I get that technology improves, but if you haven't run the fiber to my apartment complex, you can't give me that speed.
Him: My system says we do have it available.
Me: You're missing something here. When I moved here, AT&T said they had no fiber in the apartment complex. Since I've moved here, AT&T has not run fiber to the apartment complex.
Him: Fiber is available and you can sign up for 100 Mbps right now.
Me: *Goes to AT&T's web site* Why does your web site say that I can only get 18 Mbps?
Him: I get what you are saying, but what I am looking at says you can get 100 Mbps.
Me: Your web site says otherwise.

*Hangs up*
*Calls AT&T's number on their web site*

AT&T: Yeah, you can only get 18 Mbps. We have fiber available in San Antonio, but not at your specific apartment complex.
Me: That's what I was expecting. Thanks for the info.

Even if that first guy is legitimately with AT&T, I know damn well that what would have happened is they would sign me up for internet service saying I could get 100 Mbps fiber internet, then they would have installed 18 Mbps / 2 Mbps DSL, and I'd essentially get stuck with some kind of fee of some sort for signing up.

Calling 100 mbps fiber internet is such a scam

What they do is run fiber lines to a neighborhood then standard lines to homes so you dont actually get the fiber speed

anyway fortunately ATT fiber is available at my home now, Ive had it for two months now and its great
