Look at the last few RPGs that I've played.

-Trails of Cold Steel 3 120+ hours
-Trails of Cold Steel 4 120+ hours
-Cyberpunk 2077 100 hours
-Tales of Eternia (PSX) 34 hours

I used to gauge the worth of a game by its hours played relative to the cost of purchasing the game. If I got at least 60 hours out of a full priced game, then I was OK with it. That led to games having needless padding to keep you playing longer. This also means that as an adult, I have _significantly_ less time than I used to do play games. I'd like to take less than 6 weeks to beat one video game. Longer games aren't bad at all, but it's refreshing to be able to beat a game in 1/3rd the playtime of the other games.

I got Thief on Steam for $2.99 last weekend and beat it Thursday...probably about 10 hours.

I feel that was a good length...120 hours is a lot for me nowadays as an adult.

I can go for either, but now a 120 hour game will last me months... which is fine. Sometimes that's what I want.

My man. Too many games go on for 5 or 10 more hours than they need to.

I agree with this. As long as a game still drives you by the end credits, then it's a good game. Sometimes, I just want a game that will tell its story without excessive padding, then get out. It's refreshing to be able to just plop in a game, play it, and be done with it in 1-2 weeks.

I've been watching some RL GTA San Andreas clips lately, and it kind of makes me want to play it again. I've never beaten it. I have a PS3 copy, a PC copy, a PS4 copy, and my OG PS2 copy. Still never beaten it. The PC copy suffers from _extremely poor_ optimising by Rockstar (not even native resolution wtf), the digital versions of the games have songs removed (fuck you, licensing rights), and the PS2 version has long loading times. That's the version I prefer playing, though.

If it's a all-time classic like Xenogears I love long games, but if it's some boring shit like final Fantasy 10 or Xenoblade I will have to pass.

I would describe it as DEUS EX HUMAN REVOLUTION + its dark outside the entire game + slower gameplay.

In other words a darker, slower DEUS EX. That's the best I can compare it to...I liked it.

Disc 2 is a half video game half majestic novel that finishes the greatest single game plot in video game history. An outstanding achievement that will be remembered for decades to come.

I've actually beaten both Xenoblade Chronicles and Xenoblade Chronicles 2. I enjoyed both games to the end, but they could have stood to have 30 or so hours cut off of playtime. Open world RPGs have that issue with needless padding, but as long as you enjoy the game, then it's OK. I was definitely ready for both games to end, though.

I started playing Dragon Warrior 7 on New Years Day and holy crap is it long. I've been playing literally every day since then and I'm still on the first disc (127 hours in)

This will replace Trails of Cold Steel 4 as the longest RPG I've played.

I beat it on 3DS. It's a fucking massively long game, and the PSX version is longer (No QoL, no indication on where to go to get new island pieces, etc). I think my friend spent over 200 hours on the PSX version.

Get it how you can, long games really focus me on playing one single thing (time, yeah) at a time and thus I enjoy the experience a lot more like that >_>

I remember when shorter games felt like a rip-off but overtime I appreciated how concise an experience can but over time thats changed.

Divinity Original Sin has been eating up my life lately lol <_<

Skipped some parts of the story just cause, ye >_>

I've been wanting to get back into D:OS, but the playtime seems daunting to me right now, especially when I have other games on the horizon that I want to play.

A lot of games just add fluff just to increase play time, open world games are notorious for that. I really like Death Stranding but I think Kojima took criticism of MGS4's playtime length to heart and went overboard, DS should have been shorter. On the flip side Horizon Zero Dawn was a good length for an open world game and the pacing was a lot better.

I don't mind putting in a ton of hours in a game like Dark Souls or Bloodborne because I'm exploring, practicing, etc but when I'm doing fetch quests and busy work in a game it can be a drag.

Agreed. I have hundreds of hours in Dark Souls and Bloodborne, because the gameplay loop is seriously rewarding. I get real tired of games that have fetch quests as the only gameplay loop. Those are very shallow and unrewarding. I was just ignoring them by the time I was done with Cyberpunk. Don't even get me started on radiant quests. Easily the worst thing Bethesda has devised.

I finally finished the first disc at 132 hours.

I've been using a guide too. There's no way I'd of made it this far without one.

I tend to do a lot of retro gaming. 90s games that take 20 hours to beat as are about as much time as I have to invest when working, commuting, and doing everything else adult life requires of me.
