A few hours, I think. There was also a time a few years ago in Austin, TX where there was some kind of major contamination in the water system because it had rained too much. I believe the issue was that some mud or something got into the water system because of all the sudden rain.

Our apartment complex occasionally has to shut all the water off if they have to repair pipes. It's usually off a couple hours tops and they warn us a few days in advance if they can.
