Hadji was a supporting character from the 1964 cartoon series Jonny Quest. There were occasional moments of stereotyping, but far fewer than one might expect from that era. For the most part, he was simply another kid -- he was Jonny Quest's friend.
For people to turn it around and make his name into a slur for Muslims, Arabs, Hindus, and Indian people completely flies in the face of what that character was about. Somebody watched that show as a kid and later thought it would be funny to use the name of a friendly and wise character to demean people of a different race or religion. That is entirely fucked up. ... Copied to Clipboard!

huh ive never heard of that. It's in a ton of war movies set in the middle east. Its a term used by soldiers more than anything AFAIK. Also amongst Muslims it refers to one who has made the pilgrimage to mecca. I feel pretty sure it wasn't really being used in good faith in a 1964 tv series. --- "A dope trailers no place for a kitty, Ricky. Thats why." https://files.catbox.moe/gqwlkg.jpeg ~ by JimCarrysToe. huh ive never heard of that. Red calls Fez that sometimes, even though we don't really know where he's from. --- There is no "would of", "should of" or "could of". There is "would've", "should've" and "could've". ... Copied to Clipboard!

Check your timeline bruh Unless I'm mistaken, the slur originated with the War in Afghanistan. Jonny Quest aired in rerun on USA Network in the early 90s, when most of the soldiers in that war would've been children. The timeline checks out. ... Copied to Clipboard!

The timeline checks out. they used a term with a specific cultural meaning as a name for a character from that culture. It wasn't a name before then. I didnt mean it was routinely used as a slur back then I mean naming him that was kinda iffy at best in the first place. --- "A dope trailers no place for a kitty, Ricky. Hadji/Hajji is a title used for Muslims that successfully made the pilgrimage to Mecca. It has nothing to do with the character.

The name was a slur when Jonny Quest used it?
That's a shame. Much like the Lone Ranger's Tonto, he was a pretty legit character once you looked past the name. ... Copied to Clipboard!

The name was a slur when Jonny Quest used it? I dont known that it was a slur per se but there's no way you'd get away with naming a character that nowadays. --- "A dope trailers no place for a kitty, Ricky.
