There were occasional moments of stereotyping, but far fewer than one might expect from that era. For the most part, he was simply another kid -- he was Jonny Quest's friend. For people to turn it around and make his name into a slur for Muslims, Arabs, Hindus, and Indian people completely flies in the face of what that character was about. Somebody watched that show as a kid and later thought it would be funny to use the name of a friendly and wise character to demean people of a different race or religion. Also amongst Muslims it refers to one who has made the pilgrimage to mecca.
