Borderlands 3>Destiny 2>Warframe>Anthem. I've played them all amd that's my ranking. Played them all since their conception and Warframe got worse but not as bad as Anthem.

Now that I discovered Mercenary Kings (LATE to the party I know !), I can safely say that it kills all of them. SO fun. Almost TOO MANY gun possibilities !

Honestly, warframes brief success was more an anomaly than anything else. the game was a launch title for the PS3 and has always had its own little tiny community, but their entire business model is built around an eternal grind on the same handful of maps and that was never going to keep a large player base.

If the we all lift together trailer didn't become a bit of a viral hit I don't know that it would be in a different place than it is now.

It's still maintained the same 40-50k concurrent playerbase with a few jumps to the 100k for around 6 months in 2018. The game is far from dead, it's just that it's in a weird spot right now where longtime players have nothing to do are are basically in a flight pattern of waiting for content and the devs seem to be conflicted on where they want to take the game next.

EDIT: 40-50k on steam, not sure about xbox/switch/ps numbers

Oh, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying the game is dead. Just that it's a little unfair to the devs to claim they sabotaged their own success when the game has been in a fairly steady state in terms of player base for a long time.

Easily my favorite Borderlands since the original one. And even then I put the original a little higher strictly because of nostalgia and no other reason -_-

Best gunplay in the franchise. Somewhere in the middle in terms of character classes, although I would say it's second best. Multiplayer is an unoptimized mess, especially on base last gen consoles.

The biggest problem with three is that its story is terrible and the new characters are awful.

Edit: it also has some of the most creative boss fights in the series and a lot of level variety.

Shit story that made me hate Lilith and one other character in particular(which is saying something for Borderlands), grinding that I used to enjoy for maybe a month that Gearbox killed for me with the constant nerfs to both characters and gear at the start, and an unplayable split screen that they never bothered to fix in all the time I played it.

The drop rates for Legendaries is probably the best in the series, but a lot of them feel worthless due to this random modifier they come with called anointments which were horribly unbalanced last time I played. I never bought any of the DLC so no opinion on that. The game didn't ship with a Raid boss, and when it finally came out months after release I enjoyed the boss itself but hated that you have to redo an entire mission to re-fight it.

Also it's a live service game or whatever shit they call it, so every now and then some content can't be accessed during the year which made my Halloween gear worthless when they raised the level cap by like 3 levels. Oh and they still don't let you level up gear so I both couldn't and didn't want to re-farm everything I had. Easily the worst Borderlands for me, including the not-FPS Tales from the Borderlands.
