Never been in a position to do so. Have had to tell students they're at risk of failing a course though, which can be just as painful esp. if they're relying upon certain scholarships

a gardner, if that counts.

he was a good dude, and I liked him, but he'd sometimes come drunk and he was inconsistent, so I just sent him a text about how it wasn't working.

More than I care to admit. ( '-')

I told straight up from day one when I hired them that if they expect to get paid, and paid on time, then I expect results, and for them to show up on time. I'm not here to babysit them, they're full-grown adults who came to my place of business to work.

Yeah a few times when I was a Dairy Queen manager. The owners would decide certain people had to go and made me be the messenger. One time this lady was watching the training videos when the owner called me and said he didn't like a few things about her and "asked" me to tell her her services wouldn't be required. She was not happy.

Nope, not a manager. But someone did get fired after he fucked up and tried to blame his mistake on me so maybe that counts a little?

Yeah. A handful of times I hated it, but when your boss says you have to do it, you either do it or risk your job.

90% of the time I've had to fire someone though it ranged from their own stupidity, horseplay, harassment, etc.

My office has monitors so if I'm doing paperwork I can watch everyone. I saw one guy sneak off to a place he thought was secluded and couldn't get caught, and proceeded to pull stuff for heroin out of his coat pocket and get high.

I let my boss know, who called the police. I them greeted said employee at his workstation when he got back, told him to get his stuff and walked him out, where cops were waiting.

A lot
I hire a lot of seasonal workers at my job. They at least get a heads up and everything. I give them notice as soon as I have it so that they can look for work and stuff. That's more of being laid off though.

I've only had to outright fire a few. One girl on like her second day constantly interrupted me to be annoying, took several half hour bathroom breaks throughout the day and the final straw was during her actual break I watched her take an additional 15 minutes to fill up a thermos with m&ms from a community candy bowl. I don't particularly keep an eye on my employees because I'm not a babysitter but when you pretty much never see them at their desk all day you tend to watch them. Her sister in law, who works there mentioned that she later became a Craigslist prostitute...so yeah.

Yeah, earlier stages of my work life I was a retail manager, and had to fire a lot of people during those years.

I fired someone when I was the manager of a gym. They were constantly late, never did their duties, and stock was always missing after their shift.

The owner brought her back and I quit shortly thereafter.
