I personally don't have a problem with it. But I'm not going to berate someone that does for being a "snowflake" or "sjw" or anything like that, it's a touchy subject for a lot of people and whatever feelings they have towards it are likely very justified.

I think the joke was that it was offensive, but its a thin line. I think the show does a pretty good job in general of walking the line

Acceptable. The fact that there was an internal debate between the characters about whether or not it was acceptable shows that it was done with self-awareness and for commentary as opposed to flippanty or for shock value... and it still was done in comedic consistency with the show and stule of humor, between mac and dennis arguing over who got to play him, switching hakfway through and mac's makeup blatantly running off during the shower scene.

It's acceptable simply because Always Sunny is a cleverly written satire and the point is that everyone in the show is a terrible human being.

They used blackface the same way Sarah Silverman did but people still freaked out about her lol

Im personally not offended when the point is the character is an idiot and it's not malicious. But I'm not black, so this isn't really my fight. I'd respect whatever the black community felt about it. I can't feel what they feel when it's being used.

I thought it was acceptable but an argument came up when hulu started removing episodes that made me think about it in a different light. There are a lot of shows and sitcoms where they did blackface and they pretty much all contextualize it by having characters in the show say it's not cool or to discuss the topic itself. At a certain point it just starts to seem like these shows do it that way so they can get away with using blackface because no one would get greenlit for doing blackface unironically.

So I can kind of see that point, but still that's something that should be applied to future show creators that that trope is played out, not to go back and remove the episodes and pretend they never happened imo

Yeah, I don't think the episodes should be taken off, but I think the joke should be retired from here on out.
