with how much the GOP claims to be over Trump, it blows my mind they won't convict him to bar him from future politics. he's talking about creating his own party which would decimate the GOP, why don't they just remove him?

Nah. Just gotta get the Fox propaganda machine to tell the boomers that it was a good call.

If we've learned anything about GOP voters in the last four years it's facebook memes and Fox news can convince them of anything.

True. Even with all their voting suppression tactics, the GOP needs Trump to survive.

Fox doesn't wanna turn on Trump for risk of losing viewers to Newsmax/OANN

The Trump base is the most vocal democraphic, and also the most likely start actiing violent if they don't get their way. Spineless Repubs afraid for their life/position will obediently grovel before them.

However, moderates, independents, and those who can hold a thought for more than three seconds, will be repulsed by the GOP turning into the GQP, and will choose the Dems or a third party, or not vote at all, though some might still hold their nose and vote Republican anyway.

Question is though, will appealing to (and retaining of) the Trumper base sufficiently supplant the loss the moderate voters?

unless they join with democrats in undoing the system of gerrymandering that makes the fringe lunatic section of the base have an unreasonable amount of power

the answer for house republicans is an unequivocal yes because of gerrymandering--most of them do not fear general election challenges, only primaries. this gives way to "the most psychotic nazi wins" because the center right tunes out completely, knowing the only issues they care about (less taxes) are covered regardless of whether their district elects a literal nazi

in the senate it's more ambiguous, although still heavily driven that way because of the fact that like 40% of the senate represents 15% of the US population, and that 15% are mostly white people living in isolation from any other race and trend strongly in the direction of thinking hitler was right
