Superhero movie fatigue aside (and that's a real thing for sure), if you had told me back in 2003 that DC would come out with a series of movies with batman and wonderwoman and superman and flash and eventually they all join forces and have a movie together, I would have been hyped to the max

But now I just don't give a shit about the new Justice League movie

I mean, from what I read, DC screwed up their attempts at a DCU anyway. They're much better with their animated films.

It has nothing to do with marvel. Almost every dc movie has sucked balls, their three team up movies sucked MEGA balls, and now they're releasing a hack job version of the last one that sucked balls

DC is actually better than Marvel if you're a comics fan as it tries to stick to the comics.
Marvel is just a generic action franchise with superheroes which is more popular for the regular crowd

Basically DC sticks to the comics
Marvel takes the comics and basically makes a retelling for non comic fans
They tried to stick to it early on to see how it panned out, like with Hulk but it was resoundly considered completely pointless. Same as Thor 1+2.

DC just didn't want to take the time and effort needed to properly cultivate the DCU.

They wanted to rush it and thus they got a rushed product and everybody could tell it was rushed

What's odd is you would think the success of Joker and Nolan's movies and edgelord dark cartoon movies would make DC realize that the way to counter the MCU is to be different to it.

"The samething but worse" seems like a terrible buinsess strategy

And sure some milk-drinker is going to run into this topic and go "BUT UNFAR! SUPERMA ad WOnD WOMA MADE 500 millio billio zillio dollars iside 14 minutes!"

And yes I am sure they made bank. But the point is it could have been AS successful as the MCU. And made better movies he same time

It really is quite baffling.

They kill it with their animated stuff but their attempt at the "real" cinematic universe has been beyond atrocious.

Man, I remember when Superman was depressed, devoid of charisma, and couldn't crack a smile.

I remember when Lex Luthor was an awkward nerd.

I remember when WW was thousands of years old, fought in WW1, and killed a shit ton of people. And also stopped being a superhero when her boyfriend died.

I remember when Batman killed left and right.

I remember when the Suicide Squad was all WACKY, all about FAMILY, and fought an ancient god.

I remember when the first time the JL came together, it was to fight Steppenwolf and also, Superman was dead at the time for some reason.

I remember when Mother Boxes were huge, important items of major consequence and not just essentially super advanced smart phones that every New God had.

I remember when Renee Montoya was an old woman, Cassandra Cain was a fast-talking 8 year old who didn't know martial arts, and Harley Quinn was a member of the Birds of Prey.

I remember when all anyone ever fought were ancient gods or alien invaders who were almost all dressed in black.

I remember when Maxwell Lord could grant wishes.

Oh wait, none of those things happened in the comics.

so now we're mixing up the DCU with DC movies?

okay
I guess in that case we can just mix up MCU with the Punisher movies too? Or how about Howard the Duck movie?

You can cherry pick non-DCU movies to make it seemlike I'm wrong but ultimately I'm right.

yawn, blocked for trolling and doing it badly, no offense friendo

Anyway the biggest strength MCU has is the following: by having a clear end goal and ignoring what happens in comics to push for casual viewers it succeeded.
Imagine if we got Thanos, Mistress Death and Adam Warlock? Or even showed him getting the gems and having Mephisto and Silver Surfer involved?

It would completely fly over the heads of the non-fans of comics

DC should have maintained the tone of TDK and Man of Steel serious and dramatic and dark very few jokes. Also WB has major casting issues specifically Lex Luthor and Alfred. DCEU came to a screeching hault when Suicide Squad was a dumb ass comedy movie. Since then theyve been trying to be MCU but a little bit darker and its not working.

Its kind of like in the NBA in 2016 when Steph Curry and Klay Thompson would hit crazy 3-pointers then the other team would try to answer back with a 3 miss it and Curry or Klay would immediatley hit another 3 pointer and take the momentum of the game. DC tried to throw a bunch of actors at the screen to make a hit movie but it sucked and gave MCU even more hype

Then I heard of the real life versions and didn't care for it then the Marvel things and didn't care for them either since it was already done perfectly

The irony is DC has the better heroes on paper but how they refused to put the work in for the live action movies shows even great heroes can get shitty scripts, shitty reinterpretations, and shitty directors(Snyder).

Marvel had a hardcore fan creating the MCU and each film was given 100% effort as if this is the only one. MCU built a solid base and stuck to the path not taking any short cuts or cutting corners to tell a big story.

Superhero movie fatigue aside (and that's a real thing for sure)

As we've been constantly hearing for around 10 years now.....

ArianaGrandSlam posted...
The main problem with Justice League was it trying to emulate a MCU movie though

More like modern DC is too tryhard edgy while Marvel Studios is more willing to embrace the inherent silliness of comic books.

And someone like Thanos hits a lot harder if there's actual light to contrast the darkness. If it's all grimdark all the time, Darkseid would just end up being the next in line of grimdark villains if Snyder had his universe ongoing. (Also, Darkseid is never allowed to win as big as Thanos was.)

ImAMarvel posted...
And idk why anyone even says as much when the biggest DCEU hits (Aquaman, Shazam, WW) were all brighter and more light-hearted. Even WW1 and that movie was set during WW1.

Exactly.

Aquaman had an octopus playing the drums. Is it silly? Yes. Was the movie better off for it? Oh fuck yes.

The majority of modern comic book movies are trash. MCU is only good when they make some effort at resembling a comic book. The whole universe thing is massively overstated in terms of how amazing it supposedly is.

DC were onto something good in 89/90s with Batman. Giving a director with a decent vision the means to take a comic book property and turn into something distinct is a lot better than most of what came after. Zack Snyder is at least someone with a vision, it's just a terribly boring and grim dark one.
