I can in the sense that i can float just fine without fear and use arms and feet to drive myself forward....

But actual, technically trained swimming, not really.

I was always shit at swimming, until a (relatively small) shark swam under me. I learned real fast.

If I was an adult who couldn't swim I'd take classes

I'm honestly surprised regular middle class people just accept they can't swim. Would you just accept not being able to read or not being able to tie shoes?? This seems like a basic human skill

Difference being that reading and tying shoes are relevant skills for most people. Generally speaking, people don't need to swim. If you didn't grow up near a beach or pool, you'd never have a chance or a need to learn.

I'm glad I did grow up one five-minute drive from a beach though. Swimming is fun.

According to the Navy I'm a class 2 swimmer somehow lmao

I know the basics of each stroke but never did nail down the proper breathing techniques. So I usually wind up just doing a simplified janky ass breast stroke.

A little, but not really.

When I was little, my brother swimming lessons, but I wasn't allowed in the pool for being too young. Whenever we'd go swimming(at a local creek), and I'd ask, dad would walk me up to the bridge crossing it and threaten to throw me over. The one time my mom convinced him to actually help, he took me to the deeper area and held me under. So, after that I never asked again and had become afraid of deep water.

I have kind of learned how over years later just by playing around in pools and such, never deeper than chest deep though. Can swim forward pretty good underwater, can't exactly keep myself above the surface too well.

Nope. I love getting in the pool, but all I can do is walk around in the shallow side. If someone pushes me into the deep end, I'm fucked lol.

Damn! That's far. How far do pro swimmers average a week?

I think so, but I've put on a lot of extra weight since I last went swimming. Who knows? Maybe I'd sink like a rock lol.

Yes. Everyone can swim whether they realize it or not, but I love to swim (as long as there is a 0% chance of there being a shark or an alligator/crocodile).

Its not as daunting to learn as an adult as a lot of people think, either. Source: I was a swim instructor for years

I swim slowly but competently.

I could get dropped in the middle of a good sized lake and I'd be fine. It'd take me forever but I'd make it to shore eventually so long as I could see the shore.

Because it's not high on my list of priorities. If I owned a house with a pool, then absolutely, I would make it a point to learn asap. But I haven't been in a pool in at least 15 years.
