Apparently its autoimmune encephalitis. I dont know much about it besides its something thats relatively new and its when the body starts attacking healthy cells in the brain/spinal cord.

Anyone else know anything about it?

@DarkRoast

I know youre a doctor and I know all doctors dont know everything about every disease, but just wondering if you know anything about it.

Up/down. The main thing keeping me up is that I hope that theyll eventually let her see/talk to people now that they know whats up. I know itll be a process but its been a week and a half since Ive seen or talked to her and thats what really killing me the most. I know its early, but I really hope Ill be able to go see her one of these weekends coming up but idk :/

It also sucks that I had to be updated from my boss instead of the person updating me. My fear was that he was/has been withholding information at times (guy has a seriously huge crush on her even though she doesnt feel that way about him) so who knows if thats all the updates. Gonna try and message her best friends mom at the end of this week to see if theres any other updates Ive been missing.

I've been watching Hannibal so the first thing I thought of was her having a cannibalistic psychiatrist >_>. Hopefully she gets better now that she was diagnosed

Yeah when they started testing for it yesterday, the guy told me he didnt want to tell me so I wouldnt worry. Not knowing is what makes me worry more, but hopefully they caught it somewhat early and the recovery phase isnt as long.

Ill wait as long as it takes though. Just gonna be super hard, but like I said, I just hope that she can talk to the outside world soon and not just doctors and MAYBE her mom.

I read Brain on Fire by Susannah Cahalan last year, which sounds like it's similar.

If it is what your gf has, I hope she gets through it ok, and luckily doctors know a lot more about the condition now than even a decade ago. Even diagnosing it was a big problem for the woman in the book, since it was pretty unknown at the time. The author made a full recovery, though, and now helps other people with the condition (I think maybe started a charity, too?).

I think when reading about it I saw that book, so I think it might be the same/similar.

The recovery isnt whats getting me, because I cant think about her not recovering cause with how pessimistic I can be, itll just spiral. I just dont want her strapped to a table anymore with no contact with anyone in the outside world because they dont know what happened and what triggered her break. That shit has been killing me, just thinking that she may or may not know that were there for her and all that jazz.

Been writing through Facebook everyday so when she finally can open that, shell see the outpour of love and support Ive been trying to give, but continuing to see that its just delivered/sent and not read sucks.

Im just scared for her really. Like I said, a week+ in a hospital (two different ones) and in a psych ward for part of it and no contact with the outside world besides maybe her mom for a little bit. I cant imagine that.

Pretty sure it's extremely rare. I've never seen it.

Yeah from what Ive read its a rare form of encephalitis. Didnt know if you knew anything else about it through like schooling or something.

Like I said, I know doctors dont know everything about everything medically, but you dont know until you shoot that shot. Thanks.

It got caught before seizures happened at all so were hopeful that it was caught early enough to be on the lower end of that spectrum and that shell be able to have a full recovery.

Its the whole cant do anything, 1 step below coma thing thats really getting to me now.

Oh great and her mom thinks I dont care because I havent checked up.

I also dont know her moms contact info (just got it from my gfs best friends mom) and the fact that the person who has been in contact with her hasnt made it clear how I feel about her daughter is fucking infuriating. Especially when I defended his ass against the best friends mom craziness Im thinking he put a hex on my gf.

Like, I want to kill him when I see him now. Obviously wont, and theres many other reasons why I hate the guy (he thinks Im trying to steal my gf from him when in all actuality, idc who her friends are unless she cheats so idc if they hang out) and now hes doing the thing that hes accusing me of doing. Just fucking dumb.

Texted her mom and she said that this movie on Netflix is a good thing to watch to try to understand it and see mostly what shes going through. Gonna start watching it now.

Also her mom sent me a video and a picture of her and shes just in a catatonic, almost vegetable state. Literally almost started bawling at work and it took literally everything in me to keep it in.

Oh I didn't know they made a movie, too. Hope it helps you get through this.

Maybe it'll let you and her mum connect and support each other while you're waiting for her to recover.

Watched the movie.

Some of the symptoms were definitely the same, but Im glad they diagnosed it in a week and not a month+ and that her recovery/treatment will start earlier rather than later. And that we never had seizures to my knowledge.
