The only port/remaster that we need at this point is Xenoblade X. That's the last remaining big Nintendo Wii U exclusive.

It would be just as half assed and useless as the super Mario 3D collection

nintendo has released literally 3 original games since the beginning of 2020

Animal Crossing, Paper Mario, and Age of Calamity (not even developed in-house for the most part)

Theyve had plenty of time to figure out HD development, its time to step it up

its truly sad because when Nintendo puts in effort, their stuff is easily the best in the game

but most of what theyve been doing is churning out Wii U ports and remakes

Yeah it's really sad tbqh. Fanboys are holding Nintendo back so hard by repeatedly buying ports. (And I say that as huge lifelong Nintendo fan)

Remember the beginning of the Switch when they knocked it out of the fucking park, right off the bat? In the first year or so, we had two GOAT-tier masterpieces, a couple great new sequels, and a brand new IP. Since the the end of 2018 though, it's been pretty fucking weak.

ports, remasters and remakes fill in the gap between creating new games which can now take a few years for the big games. plus as has been said, not everybody owned a Wii U, so its games would be new to many people - and they're still good games.

problem is theyre adding these trivial new features with these games which add a bunch of development time

i wouldnt be complaining if they were still putting out games at a decent clip. They used to support two platforms, now theyre supporting one and somehow their output since the beginning of last year was just 3 original games (being generous and counting Hyrule Warriors which they didnt develop)

btw Super Mario 3D World sold more than 5 million copies so its not like no one played it

Like, Id rather have them throw up an unchanged port of Mario 3D World on the eshop a few years ago, spending an extra year or whatever fleshing out bowsers fury into a full-fledged game than them saving this port to sell for full price during a drought and tacking on a half-assed add-on to it to entice people who already own it

its nakedly a Ubisoft-tier cash grab and somehow the fanboys eat it up every time

its like when bands used to add one new song to their greatest hits CDs, except that didnt take them away from recording the followup in the meantime. Nintendos focus on ports is at the cost of putting out actual new releases in a timely manner

Okay but I really don't think the dev time it took to port 3D World and make Bowser's Fury even compares to something like making Odyssey or Galaxy. I doubt it took away any real dev time on any other projects either. Kinda just seems like a non-issue. We got a cool new thing.

Nintendo gets a lot of shit but they have been supporting the Switch like crazy, 2020 was just a bad year.

I don't disagree with that, though. I'm also not defending nintendo to be clear. I'm just saying, the switch audience they're aiming at isn't you. as an audience, real gamers like you are more of a small but not inconsequential afterthought.

i think that's a bad thing, honestly, but sort of inevitable? It's like a market thing.
